Amazing Member Report--Cathy Fick

In a short 9 ½ months I achieved my goal. I lost 62.5 pounds and 87 inches plus my body fat percentage decreased by 15% to the recommended body fat percentage. I went from size 2XL-3XL clothes to a size 0 - 2. I absolutely love the compliments I receive and even allow my picture to be taken. I maintained my goal on a 10-day holiday, where healthy food was available because I knew what to eat, and I maintained through the Christmas season by cooking accordingly. I owe it all to the Thin & Healthy program for teaching me that being healthy is wonderful and LIFE IS GREAT!

Weight Loss Hint--The Power Of A Kiss

Passionately kiss your partner 10 times a day. According to the 1991 Kinsey Institute New Report on Sex, a passionate kiss burns 6.4 calories per minute. Ten minutes a day of kissing equates to about 23,000 calories -- or eight pounds -- a year!

Nutrition Hint--Chocolate Lovers, Rejoice!

In honor of Valentines day I thought I'd share this little tidbit:
A nibble of dark chocolate here and
there can slow down digestion so you feel full longer and eat less at your next meal.

Dark chocolate is full of monounsaturated fats; studies show eating a diet high in these healthy fats can rev your metabolism to burn fat and calories. It may also help by curbing cravings for salt, sweet, or fatty diet-wreckers.

Metabolism Retraining Hint--Q&A

Q: I just started exercising to lose weight, but I've gained weight. Why did this happen?

A: It's true that many people either gain a little weight or don't see any change on the scale for as long as 4-6 weeks after making a significant change in their level of exercise. This is often explained as "gaining muscle while losing fat" but that isn't quite accurate. This extra weight is usually water.

When you start doing more exercise, your body begins storing more fuel in your muscle cells, where it can be used easily and quickly to fuel your workouts. The process of converting glucose (carbohydrates) into fuel that your muscles actually store and use (glycogen) requires three molecules of water for every molecule of glucose. As your muscles are building up glycogen stores, your body has to retain extra water for this purpose. That's what causes most of the initial weight gain or lack of weight loss. This is a good thing-not something to worry about.

However, despite what the scale says, you are actually losing fat during this time. The extra water retention will stop once your body has adjusted to its new activity level. At that point, the scale should start moving down. You'll end up with less fat, and muscles that can handle a larger amount of work.
