2016 CNYAMT Scholarship Competition Winner Announced On Saturday March 19, 2016 our annual Scholarship Competition was held.
We are very happy to announce that Christopher Spinelli, piano, a student of John Spradling, was awarded the $1,000 prize.
The judge was pianist and teacher Steven Heyman of Syracuse University and Colgate University.
Christopher will perform at the Senior Scholarship and Vocal Competition winners' recital on May 14, 2016 at the Everson Museum of Art.
Many thanks to Steven Heyman, Amy Heyman, Lynn Moroz, and James Vatter for making this a successful venture.
Christopher Spinelli is a senior at Fayetteville-Manlius High School. A three-consecutive year winner of the CNYAMT Piano Competition, he entered and won the senior division at age 14. At age 12, and again at 16, he was a finalist in the Syracuse Symphony Youth Concerto Competition. He has participated in various piano competitions in Upstate New York, including the Thousand Islands International Piano Festival and Competition for Young People at Cape Vincent. He has also participated in the Civic Morning Musicals Wednesday Recital Series in 2014, 2015 and again in 2016. He was the 2015 winner of the James and Katherine Andrews Young Artist Instrumental Competition held at the Crane School of Music, and was privileged to perform with The Orchestra of Northern New York.
Chris enjoys sports from basketball to longboarding, and relaxes by initiating improvisational Jazz sessions with his Dad. A high honor roll student, he excels in Latin, and enjoys writing. He has served as accompanist for his high schools' Jazz Chorale and as organist for his church.
Both Christopher and his parents credit his musical accomplishment to John Spradling's expertise, passion, patience and teaching style.

CNYAMT Instrumental Competition The Central New York Association of Music Teachers Instrumental Competition will be held on April 30, 2016. The competition is open to all wind, brass, percussion and string students ages 10 through 18, in two divisions. CNYAMT membership is not required to participate. The winners of each division will perform on the winner's recital on May 1st at 12:30 at the Everson Museum of Art. All entrants will receive a certificate of participation and written comments from professional judges. Winners will receive a cash prize. We have found this competition to be a terrific "warmup" for NYSSMA. Not only does this opportunity give your students the chance to perform, but also to receive comments that will enhance their NYSSMA performance! The deadline for applications is April 16, 2016. An application and pertinent information can be found on our website at: www.cnyamt.org under the event tab. We hope that many of your students will participate! Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
