Luther College junior David Pfotenhauer of Madison, Wis., received a Rossing Physics Scholarship for the 2014-15 academic year. The $10,000 scholarship is highly competitive and is awarded annually to five physics students of exceptional merit through the Thomas D. Rossing Fund for Physics Education. Pfotenhauer, a physics and mathematics major at Luther, is the son of John and Nadine Pfotenhauer of Madison. He is a 2011 graduate of Madison West High School. Jenny LeDoux, a Luther college junior from Minneapolis, has been named the recipient of the 2014-15 Alan R. and Sally J. Brudos Family Prize for Opera Performance at Luther College. LeDoux will present the Brudos Family Opera Prize recital during the 2014-15 academic year. LeDoux, daughter of Dean and Sarah LeDoux of Minneapolis, is majoring in music at Luther. United States Environmental Protection Agency Region 7 announced that Luther College is one of nine colleges named a new collegiate member of EPA's Food Recovery Challenge. FRC is a national initiative aimed at encouraging businesses, organizations and institutions to actively participate in food waste prevention, surplus food donation and food waste recycling activities.  Read more... 

 
 

The International Student Friendship Family Program is seeking individuals and families in the Decorah community to help Luther College's incoming international students adjust to life at Luther College and in the United States. The goal of the program is to promote international understanding and develop an appreciation of how others live and view the world. Students and their friendship families will gather in informal settings and learn about life in the U.S. and Iowa, and about the home culture of the student. Read more... 

 

 
 

The Luther College Music Department will present two one-act operas by Giacomo Puccini: "Sister Angelica" and "Gianni Schicchi." Thought by many to be the quintessential Italian opera composer, Puccini's penchant for writing beautiful melodies and for breathing musical life into a story are on full display in these two works. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 9, and Saturday, May 10, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life on the Luther campus. Read more...

Check out the Luther College Visual Media's "FIRE SONGS Mashup: Luther College Prairie Burn." The Luther College Biology Department conducts periodic prescribed burns of local prairies, to imitate fires that would occur naturally and manage plant and wildlife. The prairies are in fact "outdoor laboratories" owned by the college for various forms of research.  View video
