Martin Luther King Jr. Day lecture Jan. 20 at Luther College

 

Henry J. Richardson, professor of law at Temple University Beasley School of Law and renowned international human rights attorney, will give this year's Martin Luther King Jr. Day lecture at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20 in the Valders Hall of Science, Room 206. His lecture, "From Birmingham's Jail to beyond the Riverside Church: Martin Luther King Jr.'s Global Authority," follows a day-long series of readings from King's "Letter from Birmingham Jail." 'Who's Playin' Who' art exhibit curated by Luther's Ian Carstens

 

"Who's Playin' Who," an exhibit of photography, paintings and mixed media art, will be on display 

Jan. 20-Feb. 20, in the second floor gallery of the Center for Faith and Life on the Luther College campus. The exhibit, based on the theme of Luther's 11th annual Black History Symposium, "Sport, Media and Race," is curated by Ian Carstens, a Luther senior from Dubuque, Iowa. Read more...

Vredenburg to present new works at Luther College

 

An art exhibit of hand-painted images on wood will be on display Feb. 5-March 21 in Preus Library on the Luther College campus. The exhibit will feature the works of Zane Vredenburg, Graceland University associate professor of fine art. Vredenburg will create pieces for the exhibit over the month of January and present them publicly for the first time at Luther.

Luther College junior Katie Hale of Marion, Iowa, received the Dr. Carlos E. Casta�eda Memorial Scholarship. Hale will study in Paris, France, with the International Studies Abroad program for the 2014 spring semester. Hale, the daughter of Kristin Hale of Marion, Iowa, is a 2011 graduate of Linn-Mar High School. She is majoring in English and French at Luther. Read more...
Luther's Michona Johns earns Gilman International Scholarship

Luther College junior Michona Johns, of Edina, Minn., was one of more than 700 American undergraduate students from 341 U.S. colleges and universities selected to receive the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.  Read more...
