How to Teach Your Cat How to Give Massages

Okay, you can't really teach your cat to give massages, but I thought the picture was cute.

Thank you very much =)

10 Things You Didn't Know About Chronic Back Pain

Chronic back pain is something that millions of people suffer through. Some suffer in silence while others are tormented by a pain that keeps them from doing what they need to do but cannot explain what it is.

There are things you should know about chronic back pain both about what it is like to live with and what you can do to ease the pain.

10. It is Not Psychological

The going theory about chronic back pain is that it is an excuse for lazy people not to work but in fact, the pain is real, and it is physical pain. Just because there is no reason for the pain or no official diagnosis does not mean that it is not there. It is best to be sympathetic toward those who suffer because only those who have experienced the pain knows what it is like.

9. Water is Your Friend

Water is known to be a low impact, high results way to exercise. Through various water exercises, you can burn just as many calories without the pain that high-impact exercises cause. A good water workout, whether it is swimming or water aerobics in a warm pool a few times a week can reduce the intensity of chronic back pain.

8. See Your Massage Therapist

Those who suffer chronic back pain tend to come to terms with the fact that the pain will not get any better. Massage therapy for back pain has a long history of proven results for relief of chronic pain. Learn more about massage therapy for back pain.

7. An Accident Can Change Everything

There are many things that trigger back pain. Some people who are considered of average weight might be in an accident that injures their back. While this pain might go away on its own, it is hard, if not impossible, to get up and walk, let alone workout. Due to the inability to exercise, this person might become overweight and eventually become obese. Once this happens, it is almost impossible to stop the vicious cycle. You need to exercise to lose weight, but you are in too much pain to get it done, and the only way to relieve the pain is to lose the weight.

6. Back Pain and Body Image

This is a touchy subject. Everybody has been promoting having a good body image, loving yourself with all of your flaws and not going out of your way to change how you look. While this is a great practice, it is a medically known fact that when you are overweight, you open yourself up to many different health concerns, including chronic back pain. Those who exercise regularly and attempt to lose some extra weight will find that they are healthier, feel better, and their chronic back pain has some relief. Not saying this is a cure, but it will provide some relief from the pain.

5. Herbal Remedies vs. Prescription Drugs

Again, talk with your doctor about changing anything in your treatment plan. That said, there are various herbal remedies and nutrition supplements that help to subside the pain contrary to living on prescription pain medications. Those who suffer through chronic back pain will try anything to ease the pain but using pain medications constantly will cause not only addiction but more health concerns in the future.

4. Sometimes You Stay in Bed

One thing that people who do not suffer from chronic pain will not understand is that sometimes, when you suffer from this pain, you cannot get out of bed. It is not that you are lazy, or you don't want to work; it is that you can't. The only thing you can do is lay there without moving. It is the only way the pain subsides enough for you to cope with it. If you suffer, you need to know that it is okay for you to take a day to help you heal so you feel better the next day.

3. Winters Are Brutal

Every kid wants a snow day. The one day a year where they wake up with a fresh blanket of snow on the ground when they watch the news waiting for the news that there is no school that day. When you have chronic back pain, though, you know that once that snow arrives, or you hear the patter of the rain on the roof that you are going to have a bad day. Cold and wet are not good climates for those who suffer pain. The best thing you can do is to live in a climate where it is dry and warm year round, not only can you enjoy the sun, but you can do it in less pain.

2. Try Not to Hide

While you know that it is okay to spend a day or two in bed, it is not okay to spend your entire life there. You need to be able to continue to enjoy life and know what you are fighting for. So continue to live on the good days that you have, sometimes the best medicine is getting outside and doing what you love.

1. No Judgement

When you know a person who suffers from chronic back pain, ask them why and how this happened to them. If they do not know, don't judge them, don't tell them if they lose weight it will get better, or if they do more, it will get better. This pain is different for everyone, there may not be a reason but know that it is there and having people judge you for your pain only makes it worse.

Those who suffer chronic pain are not weak; they are not fragile, and they are not lazy. While there is not much you can do to cure the pain, there are things you can do to make it better but even with the best therapy and the best-laid  plan, and there will always be good days and bad. If you suffer from chronic pain, know that it is not your fault. If you know someone who suffers you should also know that it is not their fault.
