Sermon Title:
"Approaching God"

Scripture:
 Psalm 131

August 18, 2016

Dear MLEPC Members and Friends,

This Sunday we continue in our sermon series on the Psalms of Ascents. These were the songs God's people would sing on their way to Jerusalem to prepare their hearts to meet with the God of Israel.

This Sunday we look at Psalm 131, which appears below in its entirety.
    1. My heart is not proud, O Lord,
      My eyes are not haughty;
      I do not concern myself with great matters
      Or things too wonderful for me.

    2. But I have stilled and quieted my soul;
      Like a weaned child with its mother,
      Like a weaned child is my soul within me.

    3. O Israel, put your hope in the Lord
      Both now and forevermore.
That's it. Three verses. No wonder Spurgeon said that
Psalm 131 "is one of the shortest Psalms to read, but one of the longest to learn."

It may take long to learn the lessons of Psalm 131, but it's essential that we learn them. This psalm holds the key to our prayer life, to a meaningful worship experience, and to our very salvation. Come this Sunday and learn:
  • What made God consider King David "a man after my own heart?"
  • How to get more out of worship.
  • Why we should be like "a weaned child."
  • What the Lord wants you and me to know about how we can have confidence in Him.
See you Sunday!
