Dear MLEPC Members and Friends:
 
Between our Contact and Heritage worship service this weekend, we hold our annual "Sign-Up Sunday" event in the Fellowship Hall. What is Sign-Up Sunday? It is a great opportunity to become familiar with the many outreach opportunities available during Mission Possible 9 week, which is scheduled for July 9 through 17. Take time to stroll along and to see the many creative ways that our church gets beyond the church walls and out into our community to share the Good News in both word and deed. There will be people at each station eager to explain the ministry that they're leading - be it working on houses, landscaping, singing in retirement communities or care centers, putting on our community picnic at the church, holding an outreach picnic in Dormont, praying for commuters during morning hours, helping in the kitchen, and so much more.
 
Don't worry; no one will try to strong arm you into signing up to do something you don't want to do. We'll leave high pressure sales tactics out of it. But don't be surprised if the people involved are pretty excited about their ministry. They've seen God at work through Mission Possible in the past, and they're confident that He will show up again this year, too. And when the Lord shows up, things get interesting and exciting!
 
So, even though you won't be pressured to sign up, I invite you to do so. After all, why has the Lord placed our church in the South Hills of Pittsburgh? Why do we live here? Surely in part, it is to make Christ known to the tens of thousands of people who do not yet know Him. Certainly, it is to let our light shine before the world so that people see our good works and are turned to live to the glory of God our Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16). In other words, Good News is for sharing. This truth appears right in our MLEPC Statement of Mission which constantly reminds us to "reach out to the world in witness and service." This is what Mission Possible week is all about, and Sign-Up Sunday is our opportunity to say that we want to be part of God's church on a mission.
 
A final note on the lighter side: We sometimes refer to this event as Sign-Up Sundae, because we serve breakfast sundaes along with presenting the great ministry opportunities. So, you didn't know that there is such a thing as a breakfast sundae? You thought sundaes were for dessert later in the day? Well, this just gives another good reason to come by the Fellowship Hall between 10:00 and 11:15 - both to discover how delicious a sign-up sundae is and to find out how God might call you to reach out to the South Hills with our church family this July 9-17.
