What saddens me is that the educational policy debate has become an overwhelming chorus of boos, of shout-downs, and of bitter personal insults, rather than a real debate about ideas and data and first principles.


 
 
Organized, systematic cheating is the inevitable result of attaching high stakes to standardized tests, and it will continue as long as we're invested in the illusion that the system is working.

. . . . motivation and cognitive learning strategies outweigh intelligence as the top factors driving long-term achievement, particularly in math.

  

  

In Seattle, a cadre of teachers in January 2013 refused to administer a district-mandated academic proficiency test to students. To them, it was a moral stand on behalf of children. Their action garnered national attention and widespread support in education circles.

  

Rifts Deepen Over Direction of Ed. Policy in U.S.

In statehouses and cities across the country, battles are raging over the direction of education policy-from the standards that will shape what students learn to how test results will be used to judge a teacher's performance.

  

  

  

He fails to mention that in our home state, a war on public education, teachers, and worker representation has been implemented for more than twenty years. He never mentions the hundreds of millions of education dollars that are lost and unaccounted for.

  

 
 

  

The smoke surrounding allegations of test score cheating in the Washington, D.C., public schools burst into flame last week. In a 4,300-word blog post, titled Michelle Rhee's "Reign of Error."

We address "selection bias," "attrition bias" and the like because measured outcomes are undoubtedly affected by inputs 
 
 
 
 
 
The Gates Foundation, for example, underwrites almost every organization in its quest to control American education. It supports rightwing groups like Jeb Bush's Foundation for Educational Excellence and Ben Austin's Parent Revolution. In the recent past, it gave money to the reactionary ALEC.
