The Horace Mann League of the USA
Greetings!

Highlighted Posts for the week of April 15th

They do not tell you once a charter-school company gains control of the neighborhood school, there is no mechanism to wrest control back if parents want to return to a traditional public school.

These bills would defund Arizona's public school system, eliminate collective bargaining rights, undermine the Affordable Care and make it more difficult for Arizonans to sue corporations using class action lawsuits.

USA TODAY examined testing irregularities in the District of Columbia's public schools because, under Rhee, the system became a national symbol of what high expectations and effective teaching could accomplish.

But high-stakes tests, tests used to label schools, teachers and students as failures, are damaging our nation's educational system.

WRONG - it is absolutely not better than the status quo to take a knowingly flawed measure, or a measure that does not even attempt to isolate teacher effectiveness, and use it to label teachers as good or bad at their jobs.

The iceberg looming beneath the visible evidence of cheating is a testing mania that cheats children out of a good education.

. . .  we all must stand behind the provision of a system of great schools as logical replacement for existing school systems and that this system of great schoolsmight be provided by any sector - public/government, charter, private non-profit, private for profit.
