This week's postings:
New analyses from the EPE Research Center for the Chance-for-Success Index and school finance categories, respectively, capture critical aspects of the broader educational environment and the level and equitability of school funding.

Here's an article that points up Bill Gates' hypocrisy when it comes to the variation between what he demands for his own children, and what he subjects children from lower income communities.

The little schools that dominate the top of The Washington Post's 2012 high school rankings confirm an accelerating trend in American education: We are moving away from the something-for-everyone shopping mall campuses that were once a national model.  (Search by state or region.)

If the national movement to "reform" public education through vouchers, charters and privatization has a laboratory, it is Florida.

Opting out of high-stakes-testing prompted a great deal of discussion on social media this week.

The same teacher can get completely different value-added rankings in two consecutive years, in the same year with two different subjects, and in the same year with the same subject, but in two different grades.

We can move past the claim that charters enroll exactly the same kids. We can acknowledge that they are created to skim off the best kids in the poorest neighborhoods.

What Michelle Rhee and her billionaire buddies measured in their ridiculousrecently-released report card is a very Brave New World-type Orwellian fantasy.

Too few jobs and too many jobs that pay poorly. What should we do about poverty-and its disturbing corollary-educational inequality?
