This week's postings:
By Diane Ravitch
How is it possible that this nation became so successful if its public schools, which enroll 90 percent of its children, have been consistently failing for the past generation or more?

From the national to the local level, our public schools are under attack, and that means our students are under attack.  This attack takes more than one form.  The cuts to vital education services are horrifying enough, but they're only half the picture.  The other half is the violation of our public trust by private interests.

Representatives of minority religious groups, a handful of fact-adverse ideologues, and greed-driven corporations and individuals who want access to education tax dollars, have taken control of Arizona government.

A sweeping new study has found evidence that long-term brain damage can occur after playing football for just a few years... in high school.

Dear Mr. President, STOP THE MADNESS  by Jere Hockman

Rise above the fray.  Public education's problems are not unions, accountability, or Finland-envy.  Unlike other politicians, you need not cower to quick measurable fixes and instant gratification. No more elections, politics or fundraising. No silenced resistance against plantation reforms or succumbing to politics-by-privatization. No promises to any group or corporation; promises only to kids, Democracy, and the future of America.
