This week's postings:
Why Superintendents Turn Over by Jason A. Grissom and Stephanie Andersen
Superintendent turnover can hurt reform efforts and district improvement, but little research has examined what factors predict superintendent exits in a large sample.

When 'Grading' Is Degrading  by Michael Brick
So far, such competition has achieved little more than re-segregation, long charter school waiting lists and the same anemic international rankings in science, math and literacy we've had for years.  And yet now, policy makers in both parties propose ratcheting it up further - this time, by "grading" teachers as well.

Rather than follow blindly in the path of privatization and unleashed free-market competition that led to the collapse of our economy, it's time for Obama to start listening to parents and teachers.
They're also speaking candidly about the downsides of charter schools and openly questioning the reach of a charter-centric reform strategy.

Support for NCLB in Congress has collapsed; a vote today would probably yield as many "No" votes as there were "Yeas" in 2001.

In government, if I help myself to taxpayer dollars, we call that embezzlement and I go to jail. In the private sector, if I help myself to taxpayer dollars, we call that innovation and I get hailed as a visionary exponent of public-private partnership.

Fostering curiosity here, there and everywhere  byJohn Barell

When I speak with students, I often ask, "Who wants to become successful?" All hands shoot up.

Why Inner City Kids Have A Natural Learning Advantage  by Robert Sun

Whenever the U.S. talks about its long-term strategy for global competitiveness, it rarely puts inner city kids atop its list of assets.
