We wish to express our deepest appreciation and thank all the Boeing Bluebills for participating with UGN and our Day of Caring!

We hope that being part of the Day of Caring was meaningful and helpful. We knew you had a lot of work to do at the Dove House shelter, and with the additional volunteers form The Boiler Room' you were able to complete this project.

Perhaps next September 2013, you will consider being part of the Day of Caring.

TIME TO CHOOSE 2013 OFFICERS

It's that time of year again. We need to nominate officers for 2013.

Ken Winter is current Chair and will run again for 2013.

Barbara Berthiaume is First Vice-Chair and will run again.

Second Vice-Chair, Bob Rosen has elected not to run as he has a lot of other obligations.

Jack Randall has agree to run for Second Vice Chair.

Bluebills Octoberfest

The Bluebills has their Octoberfest social at the Beach Club.

Certificates of "Appreciation for Service" were presented to the the following:

Marvin Segar for developing, training volunteers and expanding the Fall Prevention Program.

Valeria Vogt for providing graphics support to all our programs and especially for designing and printing over 100 special brochures, tee signs, banners and plaques for the Bluebill Benefit Golf tournament.

Barbara Berthiaume for taking on the job of Publicity coordinator and her success in getting Bluebills programs and events in newspapers and on the radio.

Mea and Michael Graham for their hard work in organizing and running the first Bluebill Benefit Golf Tournament.

2012 SCHOOL SUPPLY PROGRAM by Dick Ostlund

As you know, twice each year the Bluebills pick up supplies from World Vision to deliver to the fourteen schools we support on the Olympic Peninsula. This delivery occurs once in September and once in February the following year. All schools must meet the World Vision criteria for membership including the school must have at least 70 % of the students on reduced price or free lunches. Of the fourteen schools, six are delivered by our group in Quilcene and the remainder from the Port Ludlow gang. The schools also must become a member of the World Vision supported agencies by applying for membership and by paying a membership fee. The need of the schools for our support and for the material we deliver is great and it is much appreciated by the schools and the districts they are a part of.

This year World Vision was extremely generous with the supplies providing eleven pallets of gifts, each pallet loaded with approximately 4-600 pounds of material. Since all of the Port Ludlow storage facilities were not available for the school supplies this year because of the space required for donated gifts for the CEA auction, all of the eleven pallets were delivered to the facilities in Quilcene. It was a pleasure to share space with the Hoods Canal group.

Our deliveries were made on Wednesday, October third. There were three main directions for us. We had three schools in Bremerton, two in Sequim, and three on the West Coast. Four vehicles were used for the Bremerton delivery, one large enclosed trailer for the West Coast area, and a wagon with a large trailer for Sequim. All pickups, the unloading, inventory, reloading and delivery was made with help from the Quilcene Bluebills. All-in-all it was a very successful delivery for our client schools, and a fun time for all of the Bluebill participants.

Russ and Shelley Rousseau and Dick Ostlund load up the Rousseau trailer for the trip to schools in Port Angeles, Forks and Queets, a one-way distance of over 150 miles.

Bonnie Douglas received an Appreciation Award for all the work she does in organizing the School Supply and Essential Supply distribution programs in the Hood Canal region. Lee and Bonnie Douglas, Myron Vogt and Kay Peterson.

Bluebills Dove House Charity Golfing Tournament

The First Annual Golf Benefit to support victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse took place on Saturday, September 29th,

at the Port Ludlow Golf Club.

The Olympic Peninsula Boeing Bluebills hosted the tournament and the

purpose of this golf tournament was to raise awareness and money for victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Dove House advocacy services is Jefferson County's sole provider of confidential services to victims of all crimes, empowers victims of crime and abuse through education, advocacy and crisis intervention.

Michael and Mea Graham organized the event with the assistance of Matt Prichard, Assistant Golf Pro at the Port Ludlow Golf Course. There were 124 golfers, over twenty volunteers, three major sponsors and twenty-seven tee box sponsor

s. Dove House was presented with a check for $6500 raised from the golf event. The support of the entire community made this a resounding success that ensures there will be a Second Annual Tournament set for September 7, 2013. Details will follow in early spring so mark this on your calendar for the coming year.

Team winners in the Ladies Division were Suzy Gruber, Annette Isaaksen, Lucinda Thompson, and Bonnie Vahcic.

Men's Division

First place : Mike Blair, Dan Holtz, Jack McKay, and Myron Vogt.

Second place: Bill Browne, Gene Guiberson, Dick Ostlund, and Clint Webb

Third place: Ken Avicola, Jack Hirschmann, Dan Kimble, and Jack Lambton.

Mixed division

First place: Bob Asbell, Pam Asbell, Adam Barrows, and Suzy Lee.

Second Place: Dave and Linda Aho and Mike and Elaine Raymond

Third Place: Ed and Barbara Berthiaume and Arlyn Hanna and Bob Losey took third place.

The longest drive for the men went to Terry Lyle and Kathy Williams had the longest drive for the women.

BLUEBILLS HELP 92 YEAR-OLD

We recently received a request to pave a gravel pathway that a wheelchair-bound client used to get from the house to the driveway.

Bluebills usually don't do this much concrete work but there was little digging involved so we took it on. Put in forms one day and pouredconcrete a couple of days later. Concrete was provided by Cotton Redimix of Port Hadlock.

Bluebill volunteers were Jack Hawker, Larry Elton, Jim Knight and Myron Vogt.

UGN Dove House Landscape Project

In April, a number of Bluebill volunteers weeded, whacked, and cleared invasive vegetation at the Dove House shelter in Port Townsend. Michael Graham arranged for a timely pizza delivery as the rain began to come down in sheets. Fortunately, much of the work was already done by lunch.

To follow up on this activity, Bluebill volunteers participated in the UGN's Day of Caring on September 14 and spent the day at the shelter following up on the gardening work done in April. Volunteers from the Boiler Room Coffee Shop in Port Townsend also participated and were a great help in continuing to clear unwanted vegetation.

The Bluebills have applied for a Master Gardener Grand to continue work with Dove House by improving their landscape to benefit residents and staff. Another work party will take place in the coming month to prepare the ground for next steps. If anyone is interested in volunteering, contact Barbara Berthiaume at 437-0423.
