Perhaps it's a coincidence that the decline of the American empire is occurring as there has been an increasing advocacy for profit-driven charter schools and vouchers for corporate-run private schools.  

  

A Wisconsin school district's use of a Christian church for its high school graduation ceremonies violated the Constitution, a federal appeals court has ruled.

  

Public schools are what American democracy is built upon - access and opportunity for all.
 

Enrollment in nearly half of the nation's largest school districts has dropped steadily over the last five years, triggering school closings that have destabilized neighborhoods, caused layoffs of essential staff and concerns in many cities that the students who remain are some of the neediest and most difficult to educate.  

In 2010, "poverty" meant having an income of less than $22,113 for a family of four; 15.1 percent of Americans were below that line.
