 Global Day of Prayer
Global Day of Prayer: May 19th During the last few years, thousands of believers have gathered together in various venues around Columbia to cry out to God in repentance, prayer for our nation and prayer for our city. We have seen God answering many of these prayers as thousands of job opportunities came to our city and church leaders started working together in a greater way. We live in uncertain times, but our God, the Rock of Ages, will not be shaken. This year's Global Day of Prayer in Columbia will be held on Sunday, May 19th from 3pm - 5pm at six or more regional venues instead of one central venue. The venue for Lexington will be The Harvest Church on Hwy 378. Please go to www.gdop-columbia.org with questions or to offer your support for the 2013 Global Day of Prayer Columbia. One day, one church, one prayer!

Message from Pastor Jim
Dear Fellow Servants of Jesus Christ, Wasn't Youth Sunday remarkable! Our young people did a wonderful job leading us in worship this past Sunday. Their skills in leading singing, preaching and worship reflected the tremendous gifts and abilities God has given our students. God is truly at work in the next generation! The service also reflected the strong commitment that Saxe Gotha Presbyterian members possess in passing the faith on from one generation to another. When you make a commitment at baptism to raise a child to know and love Jesus, you mean it! You diligently support families in raising their children so that they grow up with a strong relationship with Jesus Christ. Your dedication of your time, talents and treasures helps ensure that the faith is transmitted to the next generation, as stated in Psalm 78:4, "...we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done!" An event coming up that has a profound impact on the next generation is our Vacation Bible School (VBS) program. This year's VBS will take place the week of June 24-28, 2013 and feature the theme: SonWest Roundup: A Rip-Roarin' Good Time with Jesus. Our kids will have a blast learning about our Lord in a fun-filled, action-packed week complete with cowboys and cowgirls! Be sure to read the Children's Ministry section for all of the details. And remember that our VBS program is a great way for you to invite your family, friends and neighbors to Saxe Gotha Presbyterian! Let's thank God for what the Lord is doing in the lives of our students. God is doing an exciting work in the lives of the next generation! In Christ's love, Pastor Jim |

Thanks for Mother's Day Gifts This past Sunday our church, along with churches across South Carolina, participated in the Mother's Day Offering for the Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina (PCSC). This special offering supports seniors who outlive their resources and depend on the generosity of others for their care. Thanks to all of the members of Saxe Gotha Presbyterian who so kindly gave to this fund. Know that your gifts to this special offering will truly make a difference in the lives of older adults in need. Thank you for being so kind and generous!

Youth/Graduate Sunday
What a beautiful day of celebration we had yesterday with Mother's Day, Graduate Recognition and our Youth leading in worship! Saxe Gotha Presbyterian is so blessed to have many wonderful students! That also means there are amazing, godly parents and adults who have nurtured these students and taught them the things of God throughout their journey here in our church. Whether or not you had a child graduating or leading yesterday, as a church member you have had a part in raising each of them in this family of faith. At every baptism we collectively make a vow to walk alongside each child and family as they journey together in faith.
I know that I am very biased, but Youth Sundays are my very favorite because they are such a culmination of the Lord's work through many hands over a span of several years. I hope that as we each continue to celebrate the mothers in our lives, that we will also celebrate each of our students, too, and the imprints of our Savior that have been made in each of their lives. And, I pray that our students will recognize those who God has used to raise them up, and pray that they will be "confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus" (Philippians 1:6).
- Dell Simpson, Director of Youth Ministries

Missions: Give God Joy Through Service
Migrant Ministry Starts June 5th! In the summer months we have the privilege of sharing the love of Christ each Tuesday evening with migrant workers from the farms in the Batesburg-Leesville area. The ministry this year begins on June 4th and lasts through August 5th. Volunteers meet at SGPC staff offices at 6:15 PM and usually return by 9:00 PM. While there, all share a meal together, listen to a sermon (in Spanish) by Pastor Henry Alfaro, then group activities begin. We have needs for volunteers to set up and assist with recreational activities, serve food, provide fellowship and clean up afterwards. We also have a Migrant Ministry Wish List of items that we'd love you to consider sharing with these families. It's a terrific summer ministry opportunity for individuals and families alike! To get involved, please contact SGPC Officer Susan Herndon via email. SGPC Cookbook Sales Support Missions! Please see the Cookbook article regarding details of how to prepurchase a copy for yourself or a friend! Honduras Team Members Needed Be sure to read the Honduras Mission trip article above to learn more about how you can get involved in international missions!
Serve the Homeless in Finlay Park Today, April 17th On Wed., April 17th, SGPC adult volunteers will meet at the Lighthouse at 7:15 PM and go to Finlay park to help serve dinner to the homeless who live in the area. Please bring granola bars, socks, water bottles and/or packs of wet wipes to hand out. We will also be collecting these items in the blue bins around campus - please note that we prefer individual snack items that do not crush easily when packing and transporting. This service effort is not recommended for children and all youth volunteers must be accompanied by a parent. Know that we'll go to Finlay Park every 3rd Wednesday of the month. Thanks! Many, many thanks to all who donated sports jerseys, shorts and more for the Kenya Mission Trip!! We were absolutely amazed with the response and have more than we need, which enables our mission leaders to share all collected not only with children and adults in Kenya, but also with those in great need in Honduras. A very special thanks in particular to the Lexington County Soccer Club leaders for the club's extreme generosity. LCSC President Helmut Tissler shared our needs with club members and the result of the first collection day was overwhelming! And we still have two more collection days planned in partnership with LCSC! We will continue to be thankful for all of the soccer jerseys and shorts that the club and its members donated, as they will be given to many children and adults who live in extreme poverty and have great need. Donations to Neema Children's Home Welcome Please know that as we prepare for our mission trip to Kenya we welcome cash donations to assist the children's home that we most generously support. Any money given would help with food, clothing, and the education of the orphaned children who live at Neema Children's Home. Please make checks payable to SGPC with "Neema Children's Home" noted in the memo line. And know that although we plan our mission trip for the summer months, we will accept donations for this effort anytime throughout the year.
Respite Car is May 18th! Plan to serve with this wonderful ministry, which provides on-site care, love and support for special needs families and their guests every third Saturday of the month. The efforts last from 4:30 until 7:30 PM. Volunteers meet in the SGPC CDC/preschool area. If you are able to help, please contact Genny Aldinger via email or phone (803-629-5212).
Habitat House Build SGPC continues working on a remodel project in Cayce, SC in partnership with Habitat for Humanity. Construction is underway and we hope to complete the project by the end of May. SGPC will need church volunteers (no one under 16) to help on the following dates:
> May 18th - 12:30 - 4:30 > May 25th - 12:30 - 4:30
Know that all tools are provided and you just show up to volunteer (don't have to sign up in advance). The address site is 402 New State St., Cayce, SC. All questions regarding this build should be directed to Bill Seymour (803.351.0830).
