Run for God will begin again at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian in January!  The group will meet on Monday evenings in the Light House.  Come to Faith Fair this Sunday to learn more and sign up!

Run for God is part Bible study and part training program. The primary goal is to learn to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ while understanding the parallels of running and faith. Participants can potentially run their first 5k in just 12 weeks! And you will learn how the sport of running relates to your faith.

Run for God is for all ages and all levels of runners; families are encouraged to participate together. Whether you are young or old, an experienced runner or have never run in your life, this is a program for you!

Hope to see you this Sunday at our Run for God table at Faith Fair!

JimHeadshot09 Message from Jim

Dear Fellow Servants of Jesus Christ,

Happy New Year!   As we enter this New Year, we find ourselves in a time of uncertainty as Congress addresses the so-called "fiscal cliff." Many ponder the question, "What will 2013 bring?" And some approach the New Year with a lot of fear and doubt.

In the face of such uncertainty, we will be focusing on the assurances that we have as Christians. To assure is to "put beyond all doubt." The world may be unsettling, but we enjoy confidence and hope as we stand on the promises of God. Here are five assurances that we will study in the upcoming sermons:

1)    Assurance of Salvation                      1 John 5:11-12

2)    Assurance of Answered Prayer      John 16:24

3)    Assurance of Victory                          1 Corinthians 10:13

4)    Assurance of Forgiveness                1 John 1:9

5)    Assurance of Guidance                     Proverbs 3:5-6

All of us know people who need to hear about the assurance that God offers us in Christ. Let's be sure to invite them to study God's promises with us.

Also, if you haven't made your New Year's resolutions, it's not too late to craft some that will deepen your relationship with the Lord. In fact, this Sunday is Faith Fair! During the Sunday school hour, you will have the opportunity to explore the various classes and mission opportunities that we will be offering this spring. Be sure to participate in these activities that will make you strong in the Lord.

But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.     -  Jeremiah 17:7-8

Let us enjoy the blessings of putting our confidence in the Lord as we begin this New Year!

In Christ's love,

Pastor Jim

Thanks So Much!  Please know how grateful the SGPC staff was for all of the generosity exhibited via the 2012 Love Offering. Your kindness and appreciation during the Christmas season was truly a blessing!

Giving Envelopes     Just a reminder to please pick up your giving envelopes if you haven't already.  They are located outside of the worship service areas on Sundays.  Also, if for whatever reason you need a pack of giving envelopes, or were inadvertently left off the member list who receives them, please contact Andrea Summers (359.7770 ext. 34) in the SGPC business office.  We have plenty available!

Name Tags      If you have lost your SGPC name tag and need a replacement one, please contact Melissa Peel (ext. 63).  As a member, please be sure to wear your name tag, too, as it's a huge help for members you may not know to learn your name, as well as for guests who are visiting the church.  Thanks for your help in this regard!

Thanks to Former Saxe Gotha Knitters

A former SGPC ministry, the Saxe Gotha Knitters, recently donated 107 knitted caps to the Central Midland Transitional Retreat for Veterans in Lexington, which provides limited housing and job training for displaced Veterans . These caps will be given out to these CMTR Veterans to keep them warm in the cold winter months. Helmet liners are now issued as a standard item for all military uniforms, so donations of helmet liners are no longer accepted by the US Armed Forces. Thank you to all of our Saxe Gotha Knitters for your time, commitment and talent to provide warmth to the present and past military!

HammerNailBlue Nailbenders next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, January 12th!  Join us!

Thanks for Christmas Blessings!

We have our final numbers in and it's pretty amazing

the impact that our SGPC members have had on serving others this holiday season! We helped so many with our holiday missions efforts. So read the details, praise God for all that was done and enjoy celebrating the many w

ays our church members have helped others!

  • Friendship Dinner:  It entertained and served 130 people a delicious meal at our Christmas themed event.
  • Love A Family: Assisted 25 families at Mission of Hope.
  • Operation Turkey: Served 1700+ meals to those in need in our local community.
  • Operation Warmth: Collected 100+ jackets and sweatshirts to donate to the local homeless adults and needy children attending schools in Lexington District 1.
  • Bike Drive: Collected and refurbished 141 gently used bikes that were then donated to LICS and Ministry of Hope for needy families with children.
  • Operation Christmas Child: We packed 736 shoe boxes to send to children worldwide who need Christ's love.
  • Angel Tree: Provided 82 children with Bibles and presents this Christmas.
  • Project Joy: Helped 2 families with Christmas gifts.
  • Neema Children's Home: $8,000 was donated to build a new church in Kisumu AND $6,500 was given to purchase 2 acres of land to build a school for the children.
  • Andrews Family Rebuild: Although efforts are still underway, so much was accomplished thanks to Bill Seymour, Kathy Coyle and so many others who volunteered their time, in-kind items and/or money. We hope to complete the project in early 2013.

A tremendous thanks to everyone who gave via the many SGPC mission efforts this year!  Many less fortunate families and children were shown Christ's love through your generosity this holiday season in particular.  We know that these efforts gave God great joy as by serving others we are serving Him!
