TORAH TALK

A Dance Party? At Temple?

Yes! A dance party at Suburban Temple- Kol Ami. . . tomorrow evening, Wednesday, October 15, at 7 pm!

From the seriousness of the High Holy Days, we emerge to celebrate in joy!

We celebrate Simchat Torah - the joy of Torah, as we complete the cyclical reading of Torah. Members will read from the last lines of Torah and the first verses, and we'll dance with the Workmen's Circle Klezmer Orchestra - and with the scrolls of the Torah!

We'll unroll the Torah all the way down the aisles of the Sanctuary, reading from the last verses and then again from the very beginning, noting the cyclical nature of Torah just as the cycle of our lives.

The last letter of the Torah ends with a "lamed" and the first word of Torah begins with "bet"-together they spell the word "lev", which means "heart"- with our hearts we embrace Torah and life on this joyous festival.

If you can't imagine a dance party in the synagogue, or if you've never seen the Torah unrolled - join me on Wednesday night, October 15 at 7pm! It will be meaningful, beautiful - and joyful.
