Please come to our festive, delicious Chef Nights. Support the kids! Join Seeds in the Middle to be part of the solution to fight hunger and obesity joyfully. Plus, eat well!
If you believe all children have the right to be healthy, we ask you to please give something so we don't let them down.
In the words of a third grader: "We try to tell kids not to drink soda and eat candy, but our neighborhood has more junk food than healthy food. It's hard when we don't have fruits and vegetables for them," he wrote, asking the City Council to help.
Chefs inspire students and families at our schools time and again, showing it's easy to change the way they shop and eat.
Now, four chefs will travel to four central Brooklyn schools to cook with "student sous chefs" and prove that you can indeed prepare a nutritious, delicious gourmet meal for the same cost as a fast food combo. We even have a yoga instructor willing to teach and get fit with the families.
Please support these generous efforts. Get a dining experience you won't forget. We need to raise the money by Memorial Day.
Can't come? How about sponsoring a hardworking principal as a VIP? Or our teachers? We'll publicize your gift!
Introducing Chef #1
His secret weapon? Broccoli - Yes!
Stay tuned for the next three chefs and our May-June line-up.
Since 2009, Seeds in the Middle has been working closely with schools in food deserts to empower them with resources so they too can live well. Chef nights have been key. Now, students in these schools who once had no idea junk food and sugar can lead to deadly diseases know differently. They want to make better food choices, but it's hard when no fresh produce is nearby. Their chef mentors give them a chance to learn with their parents how to overcome those challenges. Click here and support our efforts to enable them to eat fresh and live healthier lives.
Want to join us? Here's tentative dates before our grand June 17 event: May 27, June 2, 3, 10 or 11 (other June dates possible) and the schools: Crown Heights' PS 221, PS 241, MS 61 and Brownsville's PS/IS 327.
Students are sending invites to VIPs, the mayor, elected officials, City Council members, even President Obama, for special Donor Circle tables, where student waiters serve them in hopes to garner support for their healthier choices.
Help us keep our promise to empower all to forge their own nourishing environments and eat well. Thank you, Chefs. Thank you, Donors. We will publicize you widely.
