LSU Dept of Accounting Kicks Off 2016 With Tax Seminar
Registration is open now for the 2016 LSU Tax Seminar to be held Jan. 7-8, at the E. J. Ourso College of Business Education Complex.
The two-day event is designed for tax practitioners, lawyers, accountants, auditors and enrolled agents. Each day is worth eight CPE hours, or 13.7 CLE hours for both days.
Coffee, water and an afternoon snack will be provided; lunch will not.
The registration fee is $105 per day ($210 for both days) and can be paid online by credit card or by mailing a check. To pay online,click here. To pay by check, make it payable to the Department of Accounting and mail to:

Cooper Selected to United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction Executive Board
Mark Cooper, LSU E.J. Ourso College of Business graduate and Stephenson Disaster Management Institute board member, was invited to speak in London recently about his experience in disaster resiliency at the United Nations Conference on Catastrophic Risk Reduction and was also selected to serve on the executive board of the UN's Office for Disaster Risk Reduction and the new ARISE Initiative.

SAS CEO Goodnight Part of Meet-and-Greet at LSU
Jim Goodnight, chief executive officer of SAS and a catalyst in launching the Master of Science in Analytics program in the LSU Department of Information Systems & Decision Sciences and the LSU Department of Experimental Statistics in 2012, was part of a meet-and-great event on Wednesday, Nov. 18.
Goodnight has led SAS, the world's leading business analytics software vendor, since its incorporation in 1976, when it was created by himself and colleagues at North Carolina State University to analyze agricultural research data. Today it is among the world's largest privately owned software companies and is best known for sifting massive amounts of data for Fortune 500 companies, flagging fraudulent claims for insurance companies, and helping retailers locate profitable places to put stores and their products.

2015 LSU 100 Ranked List Announced at Luncheon
The ranked listing of the 2015 LSU 100: Fasted Growing Tiger Businesses was announced October 23 at the Honoree Luncheon, held in Baton Rouge.
For the second year in a row, Global Commerce and Services LLC (GCS) was announced as the number-one company for the LSU 100. GCS is headquartered in Harvey, La., and is run by entrepreneur Joaneane Smith.

LEO Says Energy Prices Could Hamper State, Overall Outlook Positive
Proposed increases in federal environmental regulations and volatile energy prices could hamper Louisiana's economic growth over the next two years, according to LSU Economics Professor Emeritus Loren Scott, who delivered his annual economic outlook at the Baton Rouge Business Report's Top 100 Luncheon today.
But while there are reasons for concern, the overall outlook for the state is generally positive, with nearly half of the $145.5 billion in industrial expansion projects previously announced either under construction or completed.

Fargason Book on Intellectual Property Available Now
"Intellectual Property: Auditing the Process, 2nd edition," the third and latest book by LSU Flores MBA Program and Department of Finance Senior Instructor James S. Fargason, is now available.
It can be purchased through the Institute of Internal Auditors at theiia.org/bookstore.
In the book, Fargason writes that organizations should periodically audit their intellectual property to ensure their rights are safeguarded and properly valued. Just as important, they should ensure the staff performing these audits are qualified to do so.

Wendt, Kessling Win Fourth Annual LSU Pitch Competition
Two members of the LSU Tigers marching Band won the Fourth Annual LSU Elevator Pitch Night competition for their invention that enables band members, while marching, to read music from smart devices instead of old-fashioned flip books.
Daniel Wendt, a finance major and the Tiger Band's drum major, and Garrett Kessling, a business management major and saxophonist, are the co-founders of Tonal Innovation, which created the E-Flip in the LSU Student Incubator two years ago.
