Across the Lower Mainland, there are very few landmarks as iconic as our very own White Rock Pier. You are cordially invited to join Landmark Premiere Properties on Thursday, August 11 for Picnic on the Pier, a magical fundraising event featuring a long table alfresco dinner set against the stunning backdrop of the sun sinking into the Pacific Ocean. Crash Dammit! Have Canadian Real Estate Prices Climbed Too High?
In this edition of 5 Minutes for Business, Hendrik Brakel, Senior Director, Economic, Financial and Tax Policy, looks at reasons and effects of soaring housing prices, as well as the very real possibility that the bubble will burst in our faces. In 1997, there was a famous cover story in the Economist about American stockmarkets entitled "Crash Dammit!". Frustrated analysts just couldn't understand why massively overpriced shares kept on rising year after year. Surely, a crash was coming...three years later. Now that there are warning signs that Canadian real estate is overvalued and cruising for a bruising, it must be time to write our own "Crash Dammit!" But how did we get here? And what effect would a rapid decrease in housing prices have on the economy?

Kick off the exciting Tour De White Rock weekend with the hottest dance party in the city. BC's most well known and loved 6-piece dance band, DR. STRANGELOVE will have Blue Frog hopping.
This band is the best of Vancouver's live music scene, bouncing effortlessly between styles as distinctly different as The Beatles to Lady Gaga. DR.STRANGELOVE'S shows are highly audience interactive, always humorous, and sometimes a bit naughty! The band's vast and varied repertoire, as well as their two female and three male lead vocalists, gives them the confidence and ability to welcome audience requests for a great evening of entertainment and dancing.
