Rev. Kristin Schmidt "wholeness, health, and inner growth"

Dear Friends,

Though we very well may see another snowfall or two, Spring sure seems to be gaining strength. And just as green grass is becoming visible through the melting snow, Unity Church's vision is starting to peek out through all of the work the congregation has done to discover it.

Just like all of you who have attended a visioning workshop, read and thought about our evolving sense of mission and vision, and filled out feedback forms, the Committee on Ministry has been working hard to move the congregation along in its thinking about our shared identity and future. After weeks of thinking and meditating and living with the draft mission statement, and guided by the feedback the congregation provided about it, the members of the Committee on Ministry would like to present this updated mission statement:

We welcome people into community
to grow in spirit, thought, and service to others.

Building on this evolved sense of who we are as a congregation, we move into our third visioning workshop this Sunday, March 16. Everyone at Unity Church is invited to stay after worship, enjoy a free lunch, take advantage of free childcare, and be a part of our work to dream big about just how we as a faith community are being called to live into the vision of "wholeness, health, and inner growth" that we began to coalesce around toward the end of last month's workshop.

If you weren't able to participate in the first two workshops, this is your chance be a part of shaping the direction Unity Church takes next. If you were able to take part in earlier workshops, you already know the fun and fulfillment this week's will bring. So, come one, come all! And let's dream big together about where Unity Church of North Easton is being called to go and how we might be changed and transformed in the process!

Fondly,
Rev. Kristin

2013 Event T-shirt!
Join the Unity Church Team at the 4th Annual Outrunning Homelessness 5K Run / 2.6 Mile Fun Walk being held at DCRs Borderland State Park on Saturday, April 26, 2014

Bring your  family and friends out for a morning of fun and fellowship in a beautiful setting. There will be kids' activities and music, along with the main event. Your support will make a difference for kids impacted by homelessness.

If you would like to be part of Team Unity
, please contact Melanie D'Aiello.

Last year, UCAN raised enough funds to be a t-shirt sponsor (see above). If you would like to be part of the effort to raise $750 so that our small but mighty, mighty congregation can once again put that might and intention behind support of kids impacted by homelessness, please see Melanie D'Aiello or Cathy Adler. Cathy is on the SOWMA Board of Directors and is, once again, Co-Chair of this event.

RH 2013 Musical Notes
by Richard Hill, Music Diirector & Organist at Unity Church

My March Organ Recital, at 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26th, will be the annual "Bach Birthday Bash" featuring diverse works of that organ giant and a German Chocolate Cake.

Hug a Bell Ringer! They have been very loyal showing up on stormy nights to rehearse and on stormy Sundays to ring for you.

And  Hug a Choir Singer. They are serenading you week after week and making some amazing music regardless of their numbers.

Such devotion to you and our church!

Children's Chapel is Almost Here!
Hands & Flames
The children have been working hard throughout the winter to create their annual Children's Chapel Service! They have been learning about the spiritual practices of many of the world's religions, as well as those of Unitarian Universalism. They have used this information to create their very own church service, and are very excited to share their new found knowledge with the congregation on Sunday, March 23rd.

Get yourselves ready for a fantastic service!

A rehearsal for Children's Chapel will take place in the Sanctuary on Saturday, March 15, from 3-5pm, followed immediately by the Family Pot Luck. If your children will be participating in the Children's Chapel Service, please make every effort to attend this rehearsal. We would also love to spend time with you at the pot luck dinner afterwards!

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Deanna at 857-829-3285 or deanna.greenstein at gmail.com  .

Many Gifts; One Voice
Just as we join together in our closing circle each Sunday and sing  about the gifts we each give and receive, we realize it is the combination of all of our gifts, tallied together, that empowers the members of our community to do more in unison than we can accomplish apart. In this circle, we reach out, join hands and feel the connection to each other and the strength of this community.

As we begin our Stewardship campaign on Sunday, March 30th, it is fitting to reflect, as we do each year, on why we support Unity Church as OUR church, and Unitarian Universalism as OUR faith.

Following are some thoughts from a reading by an unknown writer.
"There is only one reason for joining a UU Church! That is to support it. You want to support it because it points to what is best in human life, because it is open to all, because it has a free pulpit, because it is a place where children can learn and grow in joy and love and not be saddled with guilt because it is more concerned with human beings than dogmas, because it is a place for religious free thinkers to work out their own beliefs, because it insults neither your intelligence nor conscience, but calls you to worship what is truly worthy of your sacrifice."

Our Stewardship campaign, Many Gifts; One Voice, ends on April 13, 2014 with Pledge Communion Sunday. Our goal this year is for every person in our circle to make a financial pledge. No amount is too small.

So, come to church that Sunday, join the circle, make a pledge, and make that pledge Your Gift, Your Voice in the amazing chorus that is Unity Church.

Respectfully,
The Stewardship Committee: Audrey Davies, Susanne Rogers, and Rev. Kristin Grassel Schmidt

Upcoming Fellowship Events
The Fellowship Committee has been busy scheduling some fun events in the upcoming months. Please put these on your calendar now, and be sure to bring your friends and families, too!

  • March 22, 2014 - Circle Dinner
  • April 2014 - Earth Day Events
  • May 2014 - Theater Event
  • June 2014 - Circle Dinner

What is a Circle Dinner?
One or more groups of ten people who want an excuse to share a potluck meal and some conversation at someone's home.

How does it work?
The Social Activities committee finds one or more people willing to host the meal. Hosts offer their homes but are not responsible for providing the meal.

The host receives the names and contact information of the people who will attend from the Social Activities committee, and then tells everyone what to bring to the potluck. Hosts usually provide beverages and/or snacks, but this is really the host's decision.

These dinners have always been a popular way for small groups of new and veteran Unity friends and members to share some low key, non-committee work, time together.

Do I have to travel from house to house?
No! Contrary to popular myth, you do NOT go from house to house. Groups of ten or fewer people go to one home and spend their entire time there :-).
