Happenings Around Unity Church During the Holidays
Upcoming Services
December 8
  • Waiting and Watching, Rev. Kristin Grassel Schmidt preaching:
Today's sermon is about the importance of tending our inner lights while watching and waiting for the new world - for which so many have hoped for so long - to be born. Join us as we begin Advent with a traditional Lithuanian/Latvian tale, a well-known parable, energizing music by the Unity Church Band, and of course the singing of "O Come, O Come Emmanuel". Unity Church at 10:30 A.M.
December 15
  • Say YES!, Rev. Kristin Grassel Schmidt preaching: Has saying "yes" to something or someone ever truly changed your life? This week we will consider what it is like to welcome the unknown into your lives, an experience the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. described as "taking the first step even when you can't see the whole staircase. Unity Church at 10:30 A.M.

December 21

  • Celebrate the Return of the Light: An Inter-Generational Solstice Circle. Winter solstice occurs on the shortest day and longest night of the year, when the sun's daily maximum elevation in the sky is the lowest. The solstice lasts only a moment in time and has many different names such as "midwinter", "the longest night", "the shortest day" or ""the first day of winter".  The seasonal significance of the winter solstice is in the reversal of the gradual lengthening of nights and shortening of days.
  • Worldwide, interpretation of the event has varied from culture to culture, but in most Northern Hemisphere cultures, a recognition of rebirth involving holidays, festivals, gatherings, rituals, or other celebrations are held.
  • Bring something for the communal alter and bundle up! We'll end our Celebration outside singing "This Little Light of Mine" and some noise making to "wake up the sun". Join us for cookies and peppermint hot chocolate following the service!

And Throughout December...

Once again, Unity Church Aiding Neighbors (UCAN) will partner with School on Wheels of MA to raise funds and awareness for children impacted by homelessness, to help them succeed in school and in life.

Throughout the month of December, look for the
Giving Tree in the Chaffin Room and in Parish Hall. Take an ornament from the tree and make a donation to help the kids in our communities. Here's just one success story about Darren, the first student supported by SOWMA in 2004.
