Fellowship Unveils New  "Growing in CommUNITY"  Program

You may have noticed a beautiful new posting on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall lately. It is the "Growing in CommUNITY" tree put up by the Fellowship Committee; Cheryl Brigante, Donna Hobart, Nicola Wilbar, Audrey Davies, Edie Marsden, Kate Haven, and Carol Heap.

The Fellowship Committee was asked by the Executive Committee to review the process by which visitors and friends are welcomed into our Unity Community, and how new folks can formally become a member.

The result is a process that is sure to serve newcomers and the Unity Church community well. Click here to see details. And be sure to check out the bulletin board and say "Thanks" to the Fellowship Committee for their hard work.

Church Office Hours

What is June Jubilee?
June Jubilee is a long-time tradition at Unity Church. Held on the second Sunday of June, this year on June 9th, it is a Sunday service held at the Governor Ames Estate, here in Easton at 35 Oliver Street, close to Unity Church, and the service starts at 10:30 am. The Ames Estate is now owned by the Trustees of the Reservation but it is still available for this special annual service. Here's a local map to the estate.

This shorter inter-generational service is held outside near the house and everyone should bring either folding chairs or blankets to sit on. This year we celebrate the great year we have had and recognize our most recent new members.

The United Brass will accompany our singing. After the service we will have a potluck lunch, cake and other desserts and are free to enjoy the grounds, taking walks, playing wiffle ball or tennis, blowing bubbles, enjoying yard games, or just relaxing.

As we all know, the weather in June does not guarantee sunny dry conditions for our outside events. So, if it rains, we will hold June Jubilee Sunday service at our Unity Church building. We will still enjoy the music of United Brass and we will have our potluck in Parish Hall. If it rains, we will need to bring some indoor games to play.

Worship & Fellowship News

Worship Turns to Fellowship for the Summer

Hi Unity Family,

After a lively conversation about the pros and cons of continuing with services over the summer, we decided to pause.  We know that for many this will be a relief, and for some it will be a disappointment.

To those of you who did enjoy summer services or even relied on them for Fellowship, the Worship Committee would like to say that it wasn't a decision made casually. We are sorry for the loss it will be to some of you, but in the end we felt, overall, it would be more loving to the entire community to encourage a break from the organizing and contributing to Sunday services.

We have all worked hard together to make this year such a success, work that will not diminish dramatically even when we find a part-time minister. We, over at the Worship Committee, want you to continue to be active participants making Sundays so fulfilling, and we want you to rest up before we start calling again!

But just because Sunday Services end, doesn't mean Fellowship has too! Please join us for Fellowship in the Parrish Hall for a potluck on the third Friday of the month at 6:00pm, that is:
  • June 21
  • July 19
  • August 16
Come and share your summer adventures, your troubled waters, and your restful musings!

Stay tuned to the website, Facebook, or the Unity News for any other announcements and group activities that could be planned to give us a chance to gather together for fun and fellowship over the summer. We have already heard some great ideas thrown about out there!

Thank you for your amazing support this year! Have a wonderful summer! See you at Water Communion on September 8th - or at a potluck!

Your Friends on the Worship Committee,
Jannelle Codianni, Michelle Blake, Kate Haven, Anne Fredericks, Mark Kunemund, Jason Gold, and Donna Taylor.

Unity Church Book Group
The Unity Church Book Group meets on the first Wednesday of each month.
  • June selection is Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder. The meeting date is June 12, 2013

The meetings will be held on at Noon at the home of Walter Tramontano. All are welcome! For information or directions please contact Michele Blake at 508-230-2839 or mfblake@comcast.net

Another Successful Mother's Day Concert
by Jennifer Gold

Another successful concert! I want to thank Dick Hill for coordinating all of the music, and Greg Wolfe, Jeff MeGreg & Kate 2013 Mothers Day COncertssier, and Frank Smith for making calls and providing a wonderful program. And an especially big thank you to all those who donated their time to perform.

We had a great turn out with a  variety of singers and musicians.  Your dedication offers us this opportunity to raise money for A New Day. This year we raised approximately $1500 for this much needed cause. Thank you again and I hope to see you all again next year.

Let's Relay for Life on Friday June 14th!
by Jennifer Gold

I just signed up for an important event and want to share it with you! Picture yourself walking around a track, surrounded by family and friends, encouraging each other to make another lap, as you celebrate those who've fought cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has taken too much from too many.

This is the scene at every American Cancer Society Relay For Life event, including the one I will be participating in on June 14th. I'd be honored if you'd be a part of our team. If you have time, I encourage you to watch this short video. It captures the Relay spirit far better than I can describe it.

The money raised through Relay For Life events supports the American Cancer Society's lifesaving work, like Hope Lodge facilities, which offer cancer patients a free place to stay, comfort, and support when they have to travel far from home for treatment.

Too many pRelay for Life Logoeople, including possibly someone you or I know, will be diagnosed with cancer this year. A Relay For Life event is our opportunity to inspire hope by raising funds and awareness to help those facing the disease. I hope you will join me!

Executive Committee News

Executive Committee Meeting Schedule Change
To better accommodate the schedules of our Executive Committee members, Executive Committee meetings will be moved from the second Tuesday of the month to the third Tuesday of the month at 7pm starting Tuesday June 18th. Also, for the summer, the EC will meet in the much cooler Parish Hall rather than Holly House. Please call President Chris Pender with any questions.

Affirmations
At the beginning of every Executive Committee meeting, we go around the table and ask if there are any special affirmations anyone would like to make. Though they do make it into the EC meeting minutes every month, we thought it would be nice to express this appreciation in a more public way.

So, they are included in our Unity News regularly! Here are the
recent affirmations:
  • Melanie and Mark D'Aiello for organizing the UCAN/Team Unity effort to support the School on Wheels of Massachusetts (SOWMA) Outrunning Homelessness Run/Walk: Cathy Adler for co-chairing the SOWMA Run, and all of the UCNE participants. We received a nice thank you letter from Cheryl Opper, Founder and Executive Director of SOWMA.

SOWMA OH 2013 UCNE Team

  • New Day Concert: Excellent Musicians and concert: Frank Smith, Jenn Gold, Dick Hill, and Greg Wolfe for organizing another successful benefit concert to support A New Day. Thanks too to Jeff Messier who made the programs.
  • Thanks to Susanne Rogers and Audrey Davies for all of their Canvass work, and the Executive Committee for providing food for the Canvass Breakfast and the Fellowship Committee for hosting the breakfast.

Canvas 2013

  • The Finance Committee, Michael Achey, Audrey Davies, Susanne Rogers, Edie Marsden, for working through all of the budget numbers in a timely fashion.

Have You Seen the Cool NEW Committee Booklet?

Thanks to our Executive Committee Clerk, Ellen Dehm, and many Committee Chairs, we now have a booklet that includes descriptions of each committee, and photos of each committee member. The booklet will be updated annually with new committee member photos. This will make it so much easier, especially for newer church members, to put faces to those names they have heard!

To view or download a copy of the booklet, just click the logo above. You will need to log in as a member to access this document. If you are not sure how to log in as a member, click here to contact the Web Administrator for instructions.

We will also keep a copy or two posted in Parish Hall on the cork board.

Church Yard Spruced Up!

Spring Cleanup
Thanks to our illustrious, and buff, cleanup crew, made up of former and current Executive Committee members, many of the stones pushed to the edges of the back parking lot by the snow plows are now back where they should be - where you can actually drive on them. Of course, a nice Bobcat would help with the rest...
