Dear Family and Friends,

What a great February this has been. First, and probably most important I am healthy again, yeah! A gout attack followed by both versions of the flu really took the wind from my sales for a little while.  Great news, everyone is healthy again!  As a self-employed entrepreneur it was very tough being under the weather so there is just so much to be thankful for today.

This month Mary Jane and I got to celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary.  I am amazed that anyone as beautiful as her could love me as much as she does.  She remains my very best friend ever.  You know, when we first met, we talked for hours and were so comfortable in each others presence, it seemed like we had known each other in another life, and perhaps we did.

Mary Jane here - making a guest appearance. I figured it isn't fair for Kevin to have all the fun so I'm sneaking in a paragraph or three.  After all 36 years is nothing to sneeze at.  Wow, I'm so thankful for all the great years we've had together!  So while he's not looking I'll tell you a couple of the reason's I love him so much.

You have probably gotten to know Kevin a little through the newsletter so it's no surprise that he has been very successful.  He is not only very intelligent, he is also amazingly driven.  He can do anything he sets his mind to.  He is caring husband who always wants me to be happy and a wonderful father.  One of our daughters said it best, when she was about two, "he's a big teddy bear!"  Kevin is also a great leader, who truly believes that people have the capacity to do whatever they want to do, and has worked to help people get there.  It's no surprise that a huge part of our newest business venture is helping people, not only get where they want financially but to grow personally as well.

I tease Kevin that we are incompatible because he is super organized and I'm not. However, we are actually very like-minded on the important things.  Over the years we have lived in many places and, of course, had to find a place to live.  We have always both chosen the same house!  Twice he had to choose the house by himself when I just couldn't go on the house hunting trips and they were both perfect!  Wow!! "I'm sure the next 36 years will be even better than the first!

It's Kevin again, what a great friend she is.  After those kind words I think she needs to be taken out to lunch today so we're going.

Quote of the month: "Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even through checkered by failure ...than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat." Theodore Roosevelt

To my accountability buddies, down 30 from the beginning of 2012, only 70 to go to reach that first major milestone.

It's War!

Mary Jane and I were listening to a CD from Success magazine and the expert being interviewed on the CD mentioned he thought we were at war, not a shooting war mind you, but a war for our attention.  We agree.  Studies have shown that when we multitask we become much less efficient and creative.  In fact, when dividing our attention, our brains function at the same efficiency as if we were stoned!

How often do you see people in corporate America in meetings splitting their attention between their phones, ipads, etc. and the speaker?  My experience in corporate America has taught me that there are important meetings, not so important meetings, and meetings for the sake of meetings so I understand why some individuals may want to engage in other activities.  However, are the attendees missing something important?

Clearly some of our politicians have noticed an issue with individuals dividing their attention between driving and texting at the same time?  Why some jurisdictions have passed laws against such things, imagine that?  If it wasn't for the fact that distracted drivers can hurt innocent people I wouldn't vote for such a law, I'd just consider it a way to clean up the gene pool.  You've got to be some kind of foolish to be texting and driving at the same time.  I put that right up there with driving while under the influence.  It's just considerate to those around you.

Shortly after listening to the expert on the CD Mary Jane and I attended a really excellent training event.  At this event, EVERY, person teaching, except Donald J. Trump and Darren Hardy, had been where the people in the audience were not so long ago and a few years later they had built a residual income stream that allowed them to be financially independent.  Indeed to get there, they had helped others do the exact same thing.  Now these self-made millionaires were giving of their time and expertise to teach those in the audience to accomplish exactly what they have

accomplished.

Would you believe that people who had paid to be there, had taken the time to be there, and made the effort to be there, were paying attention to their e-mails or maybe even playing angry birds or some other such nonsense.  Some people were certainly using the devices to take notes but not all.  Here in front of us we had a unique opportunity to learn how to literally change our lives, proof that it could be done, and some attendees had there attention divided.  My guess is they won't win their war.

Is Wolf Blitzer Hurting America?

Darren Hardy, publisher of Success magazine, provided the following article to us and because I had touched on this subject late last year I thought I would share this with you our readers.  For those who love Wolf Blitzer this is not only about him it concerns the news industry in general.  I think you may find it helpful.  Please see our comments at the end of his write up.

From Darren Hardy: During the media tour launching The Compound Effect, CNN asked me to submit an article for their website.  So, what do I have to say to CNN? Below is the article I submitted to my PR team.  Even after they begged me to neuter it, to refocus it on 24/7 news (not just CNN and not just the Wolf man), CNN still didn't have the backbone to publish the critical commentary.  So I publish it here.

(CNN-) Disaster. Crisis. Failure. Scandal. Tragic. Devastation. Danger. Emergency. Threat. Crash...

just a few words spoken by Wolf Blitzer in "The Situation Room" within only a five-minute span.  If you listen to The Wolf, the world is coming to an end... every five minutes.  And we wonder why people feel hopeless (giving up the belief that a job even exists), fearful (pessimistic about the future) and lack confidence (market and otherwise) when you have The Wolf & Friends spreading the gospel of fear, worry, danger and anxiety in our family rooms, offices, cars and airports 24/7.

The damage these constant and repeated messages have on our consciousness and creative potential is "devastating." (see Media Madness video)

What controls your attention controls your life.

Where your attention goes, energy flows and so goes your life.  When I interviewed race car driving legend Mario Andretti, I asked him for the No. 1 success tip to race car driving.  His answer, "Don't look at the wall."  He explained, "Your car goes where your eyes go."  If you are a tightrope walker, what's the one thing you never do?  Right, look down.  Why?  Your body will follow your eyes.  Your body (your life) also follows your eyes (your attention).  If you point your eyes at Constant Negative News (there's an acronym for that), your life will also go in that direction.

Your mind is like an empty glass.  It will hold anything you put into it.  You put in sensational news, salacious headlines and talk show rants and you are pouring dirty water into your glass.  If you've got dark, dismal, worrisome water in your glass, everything you create will be filtered through that muddy mess, because that's what you'll be thinking about.  Garbage in, garbage out.

You can flush your dirty glass with clean, clear, pure water.  What is clear water?  Positive, inspirational, and supportive input and ideas.  Stories of aspiration, people who, despite challenges, are overcoming obstacles and achieving great things.  Strategies of success, prosperity, health, love and joy.  Ideas to create more abundance, to grow, expand and become more.  But it's a constant battle as we are surrounded by those who want to spew dirty water into our glass constantly.

Us again: We understand CNN is not the only culprit in the negative onslaught potentially hitting us constantly.  Late last year we recommended that you limit your time spent watching of all the negativity in the news and we have followed our own advice.  We still listen enough to stay informed but we have severely limited the time spent watching or listening to the news and increased the amount of time we are putting positive things into our brains.  We testify to you that this has definitely given us a more positive outlook on life and helped us to focus on the things we can positively impact and push aside the things we can't.  For us it is a game changer, how about you?

HOW TO START A FIGHT (part 2)

My wife was hinting about what she wanted for our upcoming anniversary.
She said, "I want something shiny that goes from 0 to 150 in about 3 seconds."
I bought her a bathroom scale.
And then the fight started......

My wife was standing nude, looking in the bedroom mirror.
She was not happy with what she saw and said to me,
"I feel horrible; I look old, fat and ugly.  I really need you to pay me a compliment."
I replied, "Your eyesight's pretty near perfect."
And then the fight started........

I rear-ended a car this morning...the start of a REALLY bad day!
The driver got out of the other car, and he was a DWARF!!
He looked up at me and said "I am NOT Happy!"
So I said, "Well, which one ARE you then?"
That's when fight started.

Biology 101

Students in an Biology class were taking their mid-term exam.  The last question was, "Name seven advantages of Mother's Milk."  The question was worth 70 points or none at all.

One student, in particular, was hard put to think of seven advantages.  However, he wrote:

1) It is perfect formula for the child.

2) It provides immunity against several diseases.

3) It is always the right temperature.

4) It is inexpensive.

5) It bonds the child to mother, and vice versa.

6) It is always available as needed.

And then the student was stuck.  Finally, in desperation, just before the bell rang indicating the end of the test, he wrote:

7) It comes in two attractive containers and it's high enough off the ground where the cat can't get it.

He got an A.

Projects and Opportunities

Our Lynchburg duplexes sold and have closed!  It took awhile but we really didn't have a ton of hours involved in the deal so it was very rewarding when we paid off the investor who partnered with us on this project and took our own check to the bank.

We are selling our 4 bedroom, 2 bath, home in Columbia SC.  Approximately 2,000 square feet.  Interior was totally renovated three years ago.  Granite in the kitchen.  New appliances installed during the renovation.  Asking $89k, recently rented for $1050 monthly, new estimated rent will be $1150 per month.

We now have the title to the abandoned manufacture home in our smaller manufactured housing community.  We have someone who lives in the community who wants a larger home and may be willing to put the work into this 3 bedroom 2 bath home.

We have one investor who is interested in putting $50k to work with us for investing in seconds where the firsts are performing.  This deal is in process.

We also have a smaller investor who has put $5k to work with us.

We are continuing to locate used mobile homes, set them up in our communities, and sell/rent them.  If you want to get into the rental housing business for around $15,000 and get a 10% return on your investment then this could be the right opportunity for you.
