Dear Elisabeth (I'm feeling a little like Dear Abby here),
If you talk to the Twitter folks, they'll tell you
Twitter is an information sharing platform. A great platform for gauging reactions to what's happening
right now. Tweets happen in lightning speed, unlike Facebook where a topic can last all day.
And have you ever noticed on TV, whether you are watching sports, ads or hot TV shows, there is often a
#hashtag prompt at the bottom of the screen, like: "join in the conversation at #debates"
Talk about a marketer's dream! Instant feedback on what viewers respond to!
What it really means is you are there to be part of the world and what's happening right NOW. And the more you grow your presence, the more influence you have across all platforms.
Why do you care? Because if you get noticed on Twitter, people start to click on your profile page and check you out... and they'll click on your bio which also has your desired
website link.(I kinda snuck that link in, didn't I? tee hee)
Yes, Elisabeth (and faithful readers), your particular demographic may be primarily living on Pinterest and Facebook, but does that mean they are your ONLY potential customer?
- You can localize your Twitter conversations by promoting your Tweets to be visible to followers in your territory.
- You can address those in your locale by using hashtags: #Cobb #EastCobb #Fulton, etc...
- You can hold a Q&A on your expertise: "Moving the furniture to cover up bad #hardwoods? Ask me anything about #Floors"
- You can respond to customers who mention your kind of product needs: "Boy, my carpet is becoming confused with my pet's coat..."
And don't get me started on
Tweetchats...Hope that helps a little. Be sure to click on the blue hyperlinks to learn more!
