TurningPoint Presents at the 2014 National Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Forum in
Washington, DC

Jill Binkley, TurningPoint Executive Director, Dr. Sheryl Gabram, Director of the Avon Breast Center at Grady and TurningPoint Advisory Board Member and   Dr. Winnifred Thompson, Professor at Emory University, presented the preliminary results of an ongoing research project to provide rehabilitation care to women with breast cancer at Grady Hospital. The focus of the conference was on racial disparity in breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and support. The partnership between TurningPoint and Grady has been in place for over 5 years and the study will continue as we collaborate to provide physical therapy for inner city and minority women in Atlanta.

Patient Perspective:  Ann Rosich

My journey falls in line with so many of the women out there who have just experienced the reality and the interpretation that comes with being diagnosed with breast cancer. I was going about my normal day of work, taking care of children and the household when I received the call that my mammogram looked a bit abnormal. I was healthy, exercised every day, was an avid runner, had no family history and nursed all my babies. So to get the call that I needed to find a breast surgeon and have it biopsied as soon as possible was a shock. Then, to learn that the biopsy actually was cancer was even more than I could handle.  I decided on an aggressive approach of a double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. What I didn't expect was the recovery process being so difficult. This is where TurningPoint changed my life. I honestly did not know what to expect.  More about Ann's journey back to wellness.
