3 HOT TIPS for Driving Safely in Summer's Heat
As the mercury rises many of us are faced with automobile dilemmas caused by the extreme Texas summer heat. The following are some quick and easy tips that may prevent your car from overheating, as well as what to do if you find yourself in such a situation.
HOT TIP 1: Prevention is key.
Ready your vehicle for the heat by checking its cooling system. Look for leaks, worn or bulging hoses and malfunctioning fan operation. The hot days of summer strain the cooling system, and a failure can leave you on the side of the road with an overheated engine.
HOT TIP 2: Caught in a traffic jam?
Leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle ahead of you. This will allow a sufficient air flow for the radiator to do its job. If the engine overheats, turn off the air conditioner and turn on the heater. You may be uncomfortable for a while but this will really help cool the cars engine since the heater acts like a second radiator.
HOT TIP 3: If your car overheats & you become stranded...
Call for roadside assistance and stay in your vehicle where you are the safest and where emergency crews can easily find you. Tying a brightly colored cloth to the exterior of the vehicle will indicate that you need help to anyone passing by.
Follow these tips and take advantage of our summer "Stay Cool" special. For the months of July and August we will inspect the performance of your vehicle's cooling system for FREE!
Make sure you don't get left on the side of the road. Call for an appointment today or go online to schedule an appointment! (972) 335-9823
The Dog Days of Summer: Keeping Pets Safe
The "dog days" of summer are here, so we are looking at the hottest, most uncomfortable time of the year.
This can be especially true for our 4-legged friends. Some pet owners think it's safe to travel with their companions by vehicle during the hot summer months- but animals have a lower tolerance to heat than humans.
On a summer's day of only 85 degrees, even with the windows open, or parked in the shade, your vehicle's inside temperature can climb to 102 degrees within 10 minutes.
Our furry friends have higher body temperatures than people, not to mention their coats and the fact that they don't sweat to regulate body temperatures.
If left in a car for just a very short time a pet will suffer and even die after only a few minutes.
So get the word out- pets (or children), are never to be left in a car this time of the year. If you see a pet in a hot car, immediately call your local police or Animal Control Officer and go into the store location to ask the manager to page the person. If you act quickly, you could save the life of a pet in distress.
