School Funding Governor's State of the State
I would like to thank Governor Daugaard for addressing school funding as a priority in his State of the State Address on January 12, 2016. He has recognized the need for new additional revenue for funding K-12 education. The Governor has proposed increasing the state sales tax by one half-cent generating new additional revenue for funding K-12 education. This would generate new additional revenue for funding K-12 education, which we support as a school district.

Yankton County Reflects on 2015

Todd B. Woods
Yankton County Commission Chairman
|
A year ago Yankton County elected four new commissioners and I was honored to be voted Chairman. We have learned a great deal this past year and strengthened our partnerships with the City of Yankton, State of South Dakota (Department of Transportation, Agriculture, etc), Planning & Development District III, Yankton Chamber of Commerce, and Yankton Area Progressive Growth. I would like to highlight some of the accomplishments in the past year.
The first accomplishment was the approval of a County Site Analysis offered by SD Dept. of Agriculture and conducted by District III. The analysis identifies potential rural site development opportunities for AG related businesses. This builds on our strongest industry in the county and once completed, will significantly shorten the time for a new business to be operational.

January, 2016: Welcome to Tim Harms, the new senior sales engineer for crushing and screening products at Kolberg-Pioneer, Inc.
He began his employment with the company in 1989 and has served a variety of roles. After leaving the company to work full-time on the family farm for a few years, Kolberg-Pioneer is thrilled to have Harms back full-time. "
Tim has more than 20 years of product knowledge in the industry, and with that experience, he will be a great asset."

Update on WOTUS
Earlier today, I joined the House in passing legislation to disapprove of the rule. If the legislation is enacted, the controversial rule expanding the EPA's Clean Water Act jurisdiction to small ditches, prairie potholes and even seasonally wet areas will have no force or effect. The legislation is now headed to President Obama for his signature or veto.
As written, the Waters of the U.S. rule could become one of the largest federal land grabs in U.S. history. Everyday tasks, like spraying your lawn for mosquitos or your crops for disease, could now become federally regulated activities that carry fines worth upwards of $30,000 if a farmer or homeowner is found in violation. I'm proud Congress has moved this legislation forward. I've strongly urged President Obama to understand the burden this regulation puts on families and sign our legislation to withdraw it.

Senate Democrats Putting Politics Ahead of National Sercurity
Today, I voted in favor of H.R. 4038, the American Security Against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act, which would have enhanced the procedures for vetting refugees coming to the United States from Syria and Iraq. While this legislation received overwhelming support when it passed the House last November, it failed to receive enough Democrat support to be brought up for debate in the Senate.
