Legislative News
Mike Rounds, Rounds Report-Nov. 4th
This week in the Senate, we have been working to roll back President Obama's 'Waters of the U.S.' rule, commonly known as WOTUS. It is one of the largest federal land grabs in the history of our nation, giving the EPA control of nearly all water, including man-made water management systems, farm ponds, drain ditches and any other water that the EPA decides has a "significant nexus" to downstream water.

Yesterday, a bill I cosponsored to stop the WOTUS rule failed to overcome a Democrat filibuster in the Senate. Because that vote was blocked, today in the Senate we passed a joint resolution of disapproval under the Congressional Review Act to stop the WOTUS rule all together.

So far, 31 states - including South Dakota - have filed lawsuits against the WOTUS rule and two courts have blocked its implementation. But because litigation can take years, it's important Congress stops WOTUS now through legislation so that landowners, farmers, ranchers and state and local governments are not burdened with this newest federal attempt of overregulation.
