January Tip - MISTAKE: Being Too Busy to Market When small businesses are busy, they stop doing sales and marketing. Don't barrage with offers when you need to make a buck, instead build a relationship by consistently communicating and educating them about your products and services. Brand building!

 | Value Added Membership Tier Launch |
 | The Yankton Chamber of Commerce has been serving the business community since April 8, 1920! Traditionally, Chamber membership dues were based on employee counts or business categories instead of commitment and involvement. Business paid dues based on formulas and any sponsorships and tickets were at an additional cost over and above that investment. With the new Value Added Membership Bundled Tiers members can choose their level of investment, involvement, sponsorships and event tickets - pre-packaged and included in one flat fee. Why you should "bundle": Members can budget better knowing their investment upfrontMembers save money by receiving discounted pricing for being in a bundleMembers see what they are investing in and what they receive in return for their investmentMembers are pre-registered for events & sponsorships included in tier they selectedMembers choose their level of involvement and investment

 | | Unemployment Insurance Tax Rates Go Down |
 | Effective Jan. 1, 2015, employers will see a reduction in their unemployment insurance (UI) tax rates. "Approximately 70 percent of experience-rated employers will have a lower tax rate in 2015 than in 2014, which will result in savings for South Dakota businesses and employers," said state Labor and Regulation Secretary Marcia Hultman.   In 2014, the UI Advisory Council recommended changes to reduce employer unemployment contribution revenue to the unemployment contribution rate structure. The legislation passed during the 2014 legislative session. |
