it doesn't matter how deep into a posture you go -
what does matter is who you are when you get there."

NOVEMBER EDUCATION DIRECTOR LETTER
Today is Friday, the day I clean my house and home office after a week of school, work, Halloween, and soccer practices. Ahhhh. The books go back in the bookshelves, the counters get cleared, the laundry starts to run, and I get to enjoy the clarity that comes when things are in their right place and there is space on surfaces rather than piles. This space gives me the room to make more sense of what I have just experienced, to see how it can carry on in my actions and words.
Read the full Director's Letter on the 8 Limbs Blog.
When we clean up, clear out, we acquire more space. When we have more space, we have more of an ability to pause, to reflect, and to consider the eternal question we humans ask of ourselves constantly, from moment to moment: "What's next?" When we become aware of that perpetual question, one that drives everything we do, we can start to answer it consciously, with discernment, with, well, awareness!
On this first day of November, the celebration of the Day of the Dead, take a moment for yourself to consider what you could clear out this month to live wholeheartedly, to inspire yourself and others to live a fulfilled life, one lived from awareness rather than habit or reactivity. Dia de los Muertos is a celebration of lives lived. What is your unique way of pulsing in this life? What gets in the way of that magnificence? These are daily questions that can inspire us into lives of great purpose and impact, of living our personal dharma and following our soul's deepest desire.
The Niyamas are an amazing tool to guide us on this inquiry, why not pick them up? Join me this Sunday to deepen your understanding of the Niyamas and spend the evening with some amazing 8 Limbs teachers. And check out the amazing workshops this month that will support this inquiry: Chakras, Yoga Nidra, workshops with Max Strom and Nicolai Bachman, and Yoga & Memoir - your soul will thank for listening.

Uncover your true Sankalpa, a resolve that resonates deeply with your inner wisdom and serves your highest potential.
Tracy and Terilyn welcome you to join them for a magical weekend of nourishing yoga and deep inner exploration. This retreat will revolve around the setting of inspiring and lasting intentions as we cultivate and refine our understanding of Sankalpa through all of our senses.
Winter is the ideal time of year to take pause, turn inward and reflect on what seeds of intention we'd like to germinate in the seasons ahead, while identifying and weeding out whatever blocks new growth. How often do we find ourselves creating New Year's resolutions only to have our best intentions thwarted by old ingrained patterns of behavior? This weekend will be dedicated to uncovering our true Sankalpa -- a resolve that resonates deeply with our inner wisdom and serves our highest potential -- and finding realistic and practical ways to manifest Sankalpa in daily life. Call 206.325.8221 to register by phone. Space limited. This retreat has filled the last two years.
Haramara Retreat Center, Sayulita Mexico
April 12-19, 2014
Ignite and revitalize your being through
an in-depth exploration of the chakra system!
Spring is always an opportunity for renewal, growth and a time to invite our spirits to soar. Just like a planted seed has the amazing potential to expand and blossom into its fullness, we have this same ability. Ignite and revitalize your being this spring through an in depth exploration of the chakra system with MJ Daniels and Leisha Davis in the delightful beauty of Sayulita, Mexico. We will be living with Mother Nature in the hillside jungle of Haramara Retreat Center, unplugging from the outside world while we take our time to dive within.
The retreat will begin with a welcome ceremony at 5:30pm on Saturday, April 12th and will conclude with a closing ceremony in the late morning of Saturday, April 19th. Throughout the week there will be morning and evening sessions that focus on practices to stimulate our intricate energy system through asana, pranayama, meditation and chanting. Students will also have the opportunity to enjoy the spa services available and to embark on various excursions along the lush and breathtaking Pacific coastline.
Call 206.325.8221 to register by phone.
MANY PATHS PANEL, part 2:
Join us for the Many Paths Series.
This monthly Panel Series, featuring 8 Limbs Teachers, came from our desire to create more opportunities for dialogue between our knowledgeable and experienced teachers and our passionate community of staff and students. Throughout this series we'll delve into yogic philosophy and concepts from a variety of perspectives, exploring the many paths available for taking our yoga practice off the mat.
The 2013-2014 Many Paths Series will take an in-depth look at the eight limbs of yoga, also known as the eightfold path in Patanjali's Yoga Sutra, exploring one "limb" each month. The first hour consists of a moderated panel while the last half-hour will be a chance for participants and Teachers to have more informal conversations (tea and snacks provided!) Our four neighborhood studios will take turns hosting, see the specific schedule of topics and locations listed below.
1st Sundays of each month, October 2013 through May, 2014, 6:30pm - 8:00pm. Free and open to all levels.
