OCTOBER EDUCATION DIRECTOR LETTER
As some of you know, 8 Limbs, Many Paths, Follow Yours, has become the 8 Limbs slogan. After 17 years (October is our anniversary!) of our mission "to create a supportive, inclusive, and non-competitive atmosphere in which yoga practitioners can learn and grow" we found a more concise way to phrase it and plaster it all over the city (wait til you see our new t-shirts!).
Last year we launched a quarterly "Many Paths Teacher Panel" to develop a forum for conversation and community amongst our practitioners, teachers, and staff. We discussed the topics of practice, habit, and non-attachment. This year we're moving it to a regular monthly offering, 1st Sunday at 6:30pm. Our topics will be each of the 8 Limbs of Yoga, over an eight month period from October through May.
Our first topic is Yama, defined by different sources as self-restraint, control, discipline, and external discipline. There are five Yamas: ahimsa (non-harming), satya (truthfulness), asteya (non-stealing), brahmacharya (moderation), and aparigraha (non-grasping). Read more about the Yamas in the 8 Limbs Blog.
I hope that you will join Ashley Dahl, our Executive Director and moderator, and teachers Jonna Bracken, Chiara Guerrieri, and Jen Yaros for the Many Paths Teacher Panel on this topic this Sunday, October 6th at 8 Limbs Capitol Hill. Mark your calendar for this and the rest of our monthly events, we want you to be part of the conversation!
Of course, in addition to this FREE series, our amazing teachers have put together some fabulous series and workshops for this month. Read on for information and take one!

Uncover your true Sankalpa, a resolve that resonates deeply with your inner wisdom and serves your highest potential. Tracy and Terilyn welcome you to join them for a magical weekend of nourishing yoga and deep inner exploration. This retreat will revolve around the setting of inspiring and lasting intentions as we cultivate and refine our understanding of Sankalpa through all of our senses.
Winter is the ideal time of year to take pause, turn inward and reflect on what seeds of intention we'd like to germinate in the seasons ahead, while identifying and weeding out whatever blocks new growth. How often do we find ourselves creating New Year's resolutions only to have our best intentions thwarted by old ingrained patterns of behavior? This weekend will be dedicated to uncovering our true Sankalpa -- a resolve that resonates deeply with our inner wisdom and serves our highest potential -- and finding realistic and practical ways to manifest Sankalpa in daily life.
Call 206.325.8221 to register by phone. Space limited.

MANY PATHS PANEL BEGINS!
Join us for the Many Paths Series. This monthly Panel Series, featuring 8 Limbs Teachers, came from our desire to create more opportunities for dialogue between our knowledgeable and experienced teachers and our passionate community of staff and students. Throughout this series we'll delve into yogic philosophy and concepts from a variety of perspectives, exploring the many paths available for taking our yoga practice off the mat.
The 2013-2014 Many Paths Series will take an in-depth look at the eight limbs of yoga, also known as the eightfold path in Patanjali's Yoga Sutra, exploring one "limb" each month. The first hour consists of a moderated panel while the last half-hour will be a chance for participants and Teachers to have more informal conversations (tea and snacks provided!) Our four neighborhood studios will take turns hosting, see the specific schedule of topics and locations listed below.
1st Sundays of each month, October 2013 through May, 2014, 6:30pm - 8:00pm. Free and open to all levels.
