These tips and tricks will help you during your job search, garnered from a wealth of information learned at the Employer Forum held on Thursday, November 20th at the Oak Park JCC.

• Job seekers must be persistent.

• It's very important to send a hand-written thank you note, even if you get a "no thank-you" letter from an employer!

• Stand out with your bright personality and positive attitude. Employers cannot teach a positive attitude, but are often willing to train someone on a task or skill!

• Get organized with a binder or an excel spreadsheet to keep track of everything related to your job search.

• Showing that you are current on technology is especially important for older job seekers.

• Your interview starts the minute you step out of your car. Always be polite to receptionists or anybody you may encounter at the job site.

• Tailor your resume to the specific job description.

• Speak positively about your previous employers or co-workers. Bringing in negativity will be a red flag to your potential employer.

• Continue your job search throughout the holiday season. A part-time or seasonal job could be your ticket to eventual full-time and regular employment.

• Use your business card to your advantage! Write down something memorable or where you had met the employer so that they remember you when they see your card.
