How Can You Stand Out

in the Crowd of Job Seekers?

JVS hosted our bi-annual Employer Forum of hiring Managers in November and we asked what advice these experts would give applicants. Their tips included...

Take seasonal/contract/part time opportunities - it is a great way to demonstrate your talent, make connections and possibly create a full time position.
Research, Research, Research... managers notice, appreciate and hire people who know about their company before the interview.
Honesty is the only policy -you must be truthful about education, work experience and background information. If discrepancies are discovered, the business will question the integrity of an applicant.
Overqualified? - Make sure that you tailor your resume and accomplishments to the position that you are applying for and delete irrelevant experience. Your objective is to get your foot in the door at a company.
You never know - job opportunities have come from parties, sporting events, family reunions...wherever you interact with people is a chance to grow your network.
