Resource: About IRS Form 1095-B

IRS Form 1095-B is a new federal tax document that the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing is required to send to individuals who were enrolled in Medicaid or Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) for one day or more in 2015. The department will start mailing these forms in mid-to-late January 2016. All forms are scheduled to be mailed by Feb. 1, 2016.

Under the Affordable Care Act, most individuals are required to have minimum essential coverage (MEC) or pay an IRS federal tax penalty known as the Individual Shared Responsibility Payment. Nearly all Medicaid and CHP+ programs count as MEC. Form 1095-B is proof that individuals had qualifying health coverage during the month(s) they were enrolled in Medicaid or CHP+ in 2015.

To learn more about Form 1095-B, view an introductory webinar and a fact sheet for stakeholders. These resources are also posted here under IRS Form 1095-B: Health Coverage.

For Medicaid and CHP+ member information, go to Colorado.gov/Health/IRSForm1095B. The Department will be posting more resources for stakeholders and members to these websites, as they become available. Please email Nina Schwartz with any questions.
SIM webinar: Facts and Fiction Regarding Electronic Data Sharing in Behavioral Health Integration
Thursday, Dec. 17 12 - 2 p.m.

The SIM office is hosting an informative webinar on the intricacies of behavioral health information-sharing among providers, particularly as it relates to patients with substance use disorders. As Colorado embraces behavioral health integration, it is critical that providers and practices across the state understand the implications of federal regulations, contained in section 42 of the Code of Federal regulations (42 C.F.R. Part 2) on the sharing of substance use disorders records - including drug and alcohol use.

In the free 33-minute video they discuss the unique characteristics and features of the new coding system. Access it on YouTube here.

And, finally, check out the federal CMS ICD-10 Specialty Resources Guide for common conditions and specialties including asthma, cardiology, diabetes, OB/GYN, lab services and more. Access that guide here.
Novitas series continuation: Increasing Your Bottom Line

Novitas continues with publishing a series of "Increasing Your Bottom Line" articles geared specifically to help Medicare Part B providers submit Medicare Part B claims accurately the first time so they can not only eliminate the rework within their organizations and save time and money for other opportunities, but also receive their Medicare payment faster. Novitas publishes articles that focus on the top administrative errors submitted on Medicare Part B claims that they most often hear from providers about to correct via the Clerical Error Reopening (CER) process.

The two latest articles are titled, "Modifier QW" and "Modifier 79". Access them here.
2016 Medicare fee schedules available from Novitas

The Medicare Physician's Fee Schedule for 2016 is now available for download in PDF, Excel and text formats from the Novitas Solutions website. 2016 procedure codes will also be individually searchable through their Fee Lookup Tool beginning on Jan. 5, 2016.
