**Fairy Floss**

This is what cotton candy was called when it was first invented.

By a dentist.

That's right, a dentist

co-created this sticky, sweet treat.

Who knew?

Speaking of flossing, did you know that 3 out of 4 people would rather go grocery shopping than floss?

It's true but you still need to floss to keep your teeth strong and healthy.

Spring strawberries, summer watermelons, lemonade, grilled burgers piled high with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and ketchup...it does not get any better than this. Fresh fruits and veggies are so good for our overall health. But are they good for your teeth?  Did you know that diets that consist of 65% fruit can cause erosion of your dental enamel? A recent study said that a paste made of strawberries can whiten teeth, but at what cost? A diet with a lot of fresh fruit and veggies is still the best but there are things you must do to protect your pearly whites.
DO rinse with water and WAIT 30 minutes to brush your teeth after exposure to acid.
DON'T brush immediately after an exposure because your enamel is soft and can be brushed away! This is why it is important to wait 30 minutes and then brush.
DO NOT eat or drink acidic foods prior to bedtime.
DO use water, toothpastes, mouth rinses, gels and treatments containing fluoride to remineralize your teeth.
DO wear a mouth guard that covers and protects your teeth especially when swimming or sleeping.
DO see your dentist regularly.

Rocks and Sand

A philosophy professor stood before his class and had some items in front of him. When class began, wordlessly he picked up a large empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, rocks about 2" in diameter.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them
into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course,
rolled into the open areas between the rocks.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The students laughed. The professor picked up a box of sand and
poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

"Now," said the professor, "I want you to recognize that this is
your life. The rocks are the important things - your family, your
partner, your health, your children - anything that is so important
to you that if it were lost, you would be nearly destroyed.

"The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your
house, your car.

"The sand is everything else. The small stuff.

"If you put the sand into the jar first, there is no room for the
pebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life. If you spend
all your energy and time on the small stuff, you will never have
room for the things that are important to you.

"Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your
partner out dancing. There will always be time to go to work, clean
the house, give a dinner party and fix the disposal.

"Take care of the rocks first - the things that really matter. Set
your priorities. The rest is just sand."

Did you know that it is important to get your pets teeth cleaned and checked?  Fido and Fluffy need good dental care too. They can suffer from some of the same problems as their human counterparts do. We don't offer pet dental care at Delmarva Dental Services but a qualified vet can make sure your pet's teeth and gums are kept healthy. Nobody likes dog breath, even the dog, so don't forget to get them the dental care they need. surfer and dog
