PTO's Petty Fundraising

It's another update from Paul Asimow, your petty fundraising czar!

(1)  Have you signed up for
WHY NOT? It's so easy...

(2)  Watch the Weizmann Day School facebook page for flash announcements of specials at
Sometimes amazing deals (like 20% rebates on Old Navy/Gap cards, for example) come up for just one day, and I'll be posting them there. If you also want to be e-mailed about such things, e-mail me at
and I will start a mailing list for Scrip loyalists. For your first order of electronic-delivery gift cards, you'll need to sign up at shopwithscrip.com
(enrollment code:  597D88AL268LL) and e-mail
me whenever you place an order.

(3)  If you have a secret stash of BoxTops for Education, consider this a reminder to get them out and bring them to the school office!

(4)  If you have things that you would consider consigning to the school for a benefit sale, but they aren't really yard-sale or silent auction items (high-value things, books, etc.), talk to Paul or e-mail
I'm happy to handle the eBay or amazon listing details and turn your basement-fillers into cash for the school...

Thanks for your support,  PAUL

Middle School Tzedakah Fair
As part of their semester-end Jewish Studies final, each middle school student chose and researched a Jewish organization that they felt would be worthy of receiving tzedakah collected at school.  After making presentations to their teachers and classmates, the students held a Tzedakah Fair for the younger students. Grades 2-5 visited the fair, rotating stations every three minutes, and listened to the presentations.  They were then given play money to use as a way of voting for the organizations they felt were most deserving of future tzedakah donations.

Our Teachers and Our Community
Very consistently our parents speak highly of the Weizmann community. The community is all of us. I would like to highlight one part of the community that maybe we do not feature enough: the teachers. The teachers at Weizmann are all professional educators, so they are proficient at their jobs. This much I think the rest of us realize. What we may not realize is how deeply they are a part of the Weizmann community. To improve the strength and vitality of the school, the teachers donated their time for various silent auction items at last week's science fair. This act of generosity raised $2625. They give willingly of their time, it was not required. And any student who participates in one of these events will tell you what a great experience it is to have that quality time with their teacher.

Teaching traditionally has not had salaries as high as some other professions. At Weizmann, the school administration and the board of trustees are committed to making sure our teachers receive a living wage and appropriate benefits. In part, this is what your annual fund contribution goes to, making sure our teachers are secure. What you may not have realized is that one hundred percent of our teachers historically give to that same annual fund. That's because they genuinely are committed to the Weizmann community and want to see the school succeed. So I am putting this challenge out now to K through 4th and 6th and 8th grades: if 100% of our teachers can give to annual fund, you can too.

Lastly, I have just one more small example to share. My son is in middle school and they recently completed their finals. To celebrate this accomplishment, the teachers made the students waffles for breakfast. You may have experienced something similar, a pizza party, or a treat that a teacher brings in to share, at their own expense, in order to help build a sense of pride in our students and sometimes just to have some fun. It's a small thing, but really it is a big thing.

So please join me in celebrating our teachers who give so much to further the community that we all enjoy.
