Writer's Workshop
There was an award winning television writer who walked into a middle school classroom... Don't bother waiting for the punch line, there isn't one.  There are, however, many punch lines written into the Billy Crystal hit comedy series, The Comedians, featuring co-writer and executive producer Matt Nix.  This past week, Nix spent the afternoon with Weizmann's middle school students conducting a writer's workshop.  He shared how his passion for reading and his love of playtime led him to a successful career as a writer, director, producer, and actor.  Originally planning to pursue a law degree, he explained, his father encouraged him to consider doing what he loved most, and that put him on the path to becoming a respected Hollywood writer.  He encouraged the students to read and play, to imagine, create, consider, and observe.  Nix further stressed the importance of expanding their writing to amp up the potential for drama and to include themselves and their experiences in their writing.  The middle school students were in awe of Nix when he helped them to create a thrilling action adventure based on the real life experience of one of their classmates.

Weizmann is grateful to Matt Nix for taking the time to share his expertise with our students. We can't think of a better way to demonstrate that the skills they learn now, can result in fulfilling and rewarding careers down the road! Thanks Matt Nix!
