More Heritage Day excitement and celebration in observance of Yom HaAtzmaut!

Busy Weizmann Bees

We have been very busy observing and celebrating Yom HaZikaron, Earth Day, and Yom HaAtzmaut along with Heritage Day.  For students fortunate enough to boast a Weizmann Day School education, these past few days have been busy ones - celebrating and honoring all that we are, all that we have been, and all that we have yet to become.  From a moment of silence on the yard to walking to the park to pick up trash; from baking home-made dog treats to bagging dog food; from talking with a former Israeli soldier to participating in Israeli dancing; from wearing blue and white to donning native country costumes; and from pin-pointing places of origin on the world map to sharing family favorite recipes, Weizmann students and staff have been a busy bunch!

Science Buddies...Teaching Team Excels!

On a weekly basis, kindergarten and 1st grade, and 2nd and 3rd grades, meet to tackle hands-on science.  Activities and experiments vary, depending on the field of science study for that particular time. Amazingly, the talented teaching team of Mrs. Nakano, Ms. Ricci, Mrs. Gabay, and Ms. Shapiro work together to ensure the activities are meaningful for all of the students.

This week the classes focused on Earth Day activities, including making "dirt/Earth" pies; running relay races with recycled goods; writing cinquain and acrostic poems; creating tissue paper art projects; planting; thinking and writing about ways to take care of the Earth; sorting and listing reduce, reuse, and recycle items; and joining 4th and 5th grades to view a video about recycling markers, a worthwhile project Weizmann is now undertaking.

4th Graders Report: They are Friends In Deed!
We had a great time at Friends In Deed.  Today we packed cucumbers, yogurt, and asparagus into bags for people to take.  We also help organize the pantry.  We put food on the shelves and in the drawers. We even bagged dog food!  We had a lot of fun.  The people that work there are really nice, especially Tim, the director.  Rose was also great.  The last thing we did was take cardboard out to be picked up for recycling.  It made us feel good to know were helping people.

Mrs. Gabay has done an outstanding job leading the 4th graders in this year-long mitzvah project.
