Kehillah - Community Service

Dear Families,

Our school-wide Kehillah -- community service project -- for the month of November is collecting food, hygiene, and clothing items for the homeless.

Last year, Mrs. Nakano had the idea to turn kindergarten and first grade's annual Thanksgiving "feast" into a service project. Together with their families, the students made sandwiches and packed lunches that Mrs. Nakano later handed out on Skid Row in Los Angeles. It was an amazing experience and one that both classes look forward to repeating this year.

When handing out the lunches, Mrs. Nakano learned that there is also a great need for other items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, shampoo, and toilet paper. Warm clothing for adults is another significant need, especially mittens, scarves, long-sleeved shirts, and coats. Umbrellas and blankets would be a huge help, as well.

We are asking our school community to please bring in any of the following items to help with our food, hygiene, and clothing drive. You can leave the items in the barrel or boxes provided outside of Room 2 - the kindergarten classroom.

FOOD:

granola bars

single serving sized bags of

    trail mix

    chips

    dried fruit

small bottled water

HYGIENE:

shampoo

toothpaste

toothbrushes

deodorant

soap

toilet paper

CLOTHING:
any ADULT clothing items - gently used or new

mittens

scarves

socks

jackets/coats

ADDITIONAL:

blankets

umbrellas

From studying biblical commands to accepting modern day cultural values, the responsibility to help the poor and needy has been central to Judaism, and it is one of three distinguishing characteristics (along with Torah and worship) of being Jewish.  Please help us to help others!

Thank you,

Weizmann Day School Staff and Students
