Lisa's Lines

Welcome Back!

I hope you had a relaxing, rejuvenating, and exciting summer break.

The faculty and staff have been busy all week preparing and planning for the arrival of a terrific 31st new school year.

We are pleased to announce that we have obtained additional iPads to use in all of our elementary classrooms and had professional training this week from our IT consultant in augmenting our capabilities, improving our skills, and expanding our resources. Our middle school has embraced a BYOD program and we are fortunate that Jacquie K. (Damien's mom) will be facilitating a workshop for parents in the fall that will address the challenges and benefits of (pre-)adolescent tech usage.

Recognizing that we are all instrumental in building community through increased enrollment, Janet Levine, a development consultant and our Generations LA coach, conducted an inspirational session on how our faculty and staff are influential in this important function.

Bullying is front and center in the minds of educators, school leadership, and parents - both globally and locally. The major focus of our staff orientation week was allocated to addressing the issue at Weizmann and our school wide approach to addressing and managing such concerns. We purchased for the teachers a book I read over the summer and will be leading a text study on the topic of bully-proofing our classrooms and maintaining a safe and nurturing school campus for all of our students. You will hear more about this plan when you come to back to school night.

Bakesh Shalom, our middah (Jewish value) this year, charges us with the responsibility of working toward bringing about peace..."Peace in our Classrooms", "Peace in our Community ", "Peace in our World ".  May God grant us the wisdom, skills, and fortitude to achieve this valuable and much needed goal this new school term.

Looking forward to seeing you all Wednesday (9/3) morning on the yard. We will be sounding the shofar, calling out that the new year is commencing.  If you have a shofar of your own, bring it and join me each morning from September 3 through the 23rd.

Shabbat Shalom,
Lisa

And the tzedakah goes to...
For the first six weeks of school, in partnership with the Jewish Federation of the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys, all tzedakah monies contributed by our students will be donated to the national Stop The Sirens Campaign.  There is a considerable amount of work and resources needed to help the people of Israel cope and recover from the recent acts of violence that have occurred in the region.
