WASC Visits Weizmann

WASC advances and validates quality ongoing school improvement by supporting its private and public elementary, secondary, and post-secondary member institutions to engage in a rigorous and relevant self-evaluation and peer review process that focuses on student learning.

On April 3 we will host two WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) committee members for a one day mid-cycle visit, a requirement of the six-year term of accreditation we received in the spring of 2011. These two educators will tour our classrooms, meet with our school leadership and faculty, and will complete a visiting committee report that we hope will reaffirm our current accreditation status.

The accreditation process focuses on fostering excellence in education and the purpose of WASC is to professionally support us in creating a clear vision of what we desire our students to know and be able to do. The accreditation process is a vehicle that enables us to improve student learning and school performance based on an analysis of what we deem are our areas of  strength and areas of growth.

Unlike the reaccreditation visit that we had three years ago and will have again in three more years, this committee does not require meeting with all of our stakeholders-students, staff, parents, board, and community leaders.  However, if you are on campus when Ernest Antonelli and Erica Rothblum are visiting, please say hello and welcome them to our community.

~Shabbat Shalom,

Lisa

A Note About Annual Fund
Weizmann students benefit directly from contributions to our Annual Fund Campaign. These much needed funds allow us to offer significant extra-curricular programs like Shakespeare, our participation in the LA County Regional Science Fair, Yosemite science trip, Astro Camp, recorder music class, ceramics and fine arts, etc. With 100% parent participation, we can apply for (and more readily qualify for) grant funding and other outside financial resources, too.

We are slowly growing closer to our ultimate goal of 100% participation. Please help us meet our financial goal by giving generously with a meaningful gift to this year's Annual Fund. Help us meet our goal of 100% participation - school wide, by joining the families and others who have already given.

Todah Rabbah to all who have contributed thus far!!

Bring your family, friends, and neighbors (along with the flier below) anytime throughout the day on Thursday, March 27, to CPK and they will donate 20% of the bill to us!  Don't miss this tasty event!

that PTO Co-Chair, Jen, was honored as Weizmann's Woman Who Makes a Difference at the Jewish Federation's luncheon today?  Mazel Tov on community recognition that is well-deserved!

that registration is still open for the new after school classes beginning soon?  Sign up in the office or with Lori Serna for Soccer Superstars, Mad Science, Kids Art, Garden Art, and Kid Cuisine.  Some classes require a minimum number of students.

that nine of our middle school students are headed to the L.A. County Regional Science Fair this weekend, at the Pasadena Convention Center?

that Habonim Dror Camp Gilboa will return next Thursday for one more visit, this time with a program for the 7th and 8th graders?

that on April 3, WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges - accrediting agency) visits for our mid-cycle review? In 2011, Weizmann Day School was awarded the highest possible WASC accreditation status and this is just like our "check-up" visit.

that Student Council will once again host a Boker Tov Bagel Breakfast next Friday morning, April 4?  Remember to bring your thermal cup for discounted beverage refills.

that we are approximately two thirds of the way through the academic year and it is as important as ever that
students arrive to school on time
ready to learn?
When students are late, they are challenged themselves to catch up with the group; and their tardiness often interrupts the learning of others.  Please help us preserve our learning environment by showing up to school on time.

that we have just a few more Scrip Gift Cards available for purchase in the office and all proceeds help fund school programs? Gift cards available include: Arco, Marcus Theatres, Whole Foods, Starbucks, Amazon, Target and Noah's Bagels.
