We are delighted to participate once again in the annual Harmony for Humanity Daniel Pearl World Music Days celebration, an international network of concerts that uses the power of music to reaffirm our commitment to tolerance and fellowship. Friday marks our 10th annual performance highlighting the life and legacy of journalist and musician Daniel Pearl.  Since 2002, Daniel Pearl World Music Days has grown to include the participation of more than 11,000 performances in 129 countries. That is a lot of performances, yet we were told by the Daniel Pearl Foundation that this concert is the only multi-cultural, interfaith, youth concert existing anywhere in the world!

In 2005, Mayor Bogaard bestowed upon each of the three heads of school the Model of Unity Award at a Pasadena City Council meeting, acknowledging our friendship and our commitment to promoting harmony and respect among our faith traditions.

Students from St. Mark's School (Episcopal), New Horizon School (Muslim), and Weizmann Day School (Jewish), will be joined on stage for the first time by our friends at The Peace and Justice Academy, a local Mennonite school, in our celebration this year. One of the projects inspired by our annual concerts is underway in the San Gabriel Valley.   Amira al-Saaraf, head at New Horizon School and I are currently working closely with the directors at the Peace and Justice Academy to establish the first of its kind, an interfaith high school.

Our Weizmann Day School middah this year, the value that runs throughout our programming, is from Pirkei Avot - "The Ethics of our Ancestors"--Emor m'at, v'aseh harbeh - "Say Little and Do Much."  I believe that the Children of Abraham, the three faith communities of Christian, Muslim and Jewish children, are doing much to build a brighter world through active dialogue and community building.

Join us tomorrow at 11:00 am in the Galpert Sanctuary.

Shabbat Shalom,

Lisa
