Holiday Happenings

What an amazing first month of school!  This past month was full of wonderful activities all about the Tishrei Holidays.  We celebrated Rosh HaShanah this year, not with apples and honey, but with something equally as sweet, an ice-cream birthday party!  The students celebrated the Jewish New Year by singing songs about Rosh HaShanah and celebrating the birthday of the world.  For Yom Kippur, each student was given the challenge: How to be a Better Me.  You can read their wonderful goals on the bulletin board in the upstairs hallway.

During the week of Sukkot, students had the opportunity to eat lunch in the Sukkah as well as have some of their Jewish Studies classes in the Sukkah!  Kindergarten through fourth grade enjoyed spending time in the Sukkah to sing songs with Ms. Bat-Sarah.  Third and fourth grade had a special opportunity to visit the Pinson's family Sukkah and bake hallah, too.  Every day, during the holiday of Sukkot, fifth through eighth grade met in the Sukkah first thing in the morning.  They had the chance to participate in an abridged Hallel Service.

In honor of Simhat Torah, the students are creating a Weizmann community Torah.  Kindergarten through second grade are depicting the Book of Genesis, third and fourth grade are depicting the Book of Exodus, fifth grade is depicting the Book of Leviticus, sixth grade is depicting the Book of Numbers, and seventh and eighth grade are depicting the Book of Deuteronomy.
