Update from Galit Feinreich
Weizmann Parent & President of the Board of Trustees
As I have shared with most of you, the primary job of the Board of Trustees is to ensure the financial viability of the school - a task made infinitely simpler by the leadership of our exceptionally dedicated and multi-talented Head of School, Lisa Feldman.
The board's job involves oversight of the school's operational budget, but moreover, it involves a lot of begging, pleading, and polite groveling to everyone in shouting distance for money. So it is my great pleasure, for once, NOT to ask for money, but rather to report some great news about the school's fundraising accomplishments this year.
First of all, I want to thank each and every one of you for your participation in our Annual Fund. ALL of our K-7 families, faculty, staff, and board members supported our Annual Fund campaign this year. This high level of involvement from our families certainly inspires confidence and generosity when we reach out to the broader community.
To leverage this momentum, further engage the community (including grandparents, alumni, and other supporters of Jewish education) and help our school to thrive and grow, our board decided to bring back the practice of a Spring Fundraiser. This charge was met with remarkable enthusiasm and passion from our event chair, Maite, along with the entire PTO -- and Viva la Musica! quickly transformed from idea to reality. This elegant event was held on Sunday, May 19, at the home of Noah and Maya, and benefited our school's commitment to enrichment and the arts (which was on obvious display at our Shakespeare performance yesterday - and will be again at our upcoming Art Show!)
In keeping with the event's Spanish theme and decor, our menu featured Tapas and Sangria. The highlight of a very lovely evening was an extraordinary concert by Weizmann parent and LA Philharmonic Primary Trombone, Nitzan, and his piano accompanist, Cindy Lam. The event was capped off with an amazing silent auction with no fewer than 62 items, all donated and solicited by members of our incredibly dedicated community.
I am very proud to announce that through ticket sales, donations, CD sales, and silent auction proceeds, our Spring Event raised over $10,000 -- well in excess of our initial $5,000 goal! This means that we have exceeded our Annual Fund stretch goal of $110,000 - every penny of which will be invested into our school.
On behalf of Lisa, the board, our amazing faculty and staff - and especially the students of Weizmann Day School who are the ultimate beneficiaries of this achievement, I would like to sincerely thank every single person whose hard work, talent, generosity, and dedication made this accomplishment possible:
Doug, Brett, Maite, Mary Ann, Mickey, Dana, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Shelly, Rebecca, Maya, Noah, Jill, Nitzan, Rachel, Jim, Jacqueline, Esther, Cindy, Jennifer, Michelle, Shana, Lisa, Lawrence, Elena, Andrea, Peter, Andy, Heather, Faith, Howard, Penina, Greta, Ron, Torang, & Traci.
Todah Rabbah!!!!
