We are thrilled to announce that for the very first time in Weizmann history our middle school students will be participating in a regional science fair. The 13 proposed projects submitted by our middle school students will be featured next weekend at the LA County Science Fair at the Pasadena Convention Center. All of our projects made it to the first round of competition and were chosen from over 1300 entries! The Science Fair is open to the public all day on Saturday, March 23 from 10am-5pm; The displays for public viewing will showcase the 500 most outstanding science projects completed by middle school students throughout LA County.

Our participation in the competition will run over three days, March 21-23. The students will be registering and setting up their displays on Thursday afternoon, yet will be back at Weizmann before 3:30 pm, in time for dismissal.

Accompanied by Mr. Marks and Mrs. V. on Friday morning, our students will leave school shortly after drop off in order to check-in by 9:00 am for the judging phase. Throughout the judging our students will remain in the Convention Center standing near their projects, as they did at Weizmann's Science Fair, until the judges have heard their oral presentations.  Although judging is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm we believe that it will most likely occur for our students between 1:00 and 5:00 pm.  During this time the teachers and Mrs. Snyder will be on site to supervise the students. Once the judges have finished visiting the displays, the students will be escorted outside of the Convention Center by one of our staff to be collected by the parents.

We are proud of the accomplishments of these remarkable students who serve as wonderful representatives of Weizmann Day School and ambassadors of our mission.

Kudos to our Science educator, Mr. Albert Marks, for all of his many efforts coordinating our participation in this important endeavor and for preparing our students so that they qualified for this significant honor. A huge thank you to Mrs. Lori Snyder for supporting the students' participation in the program by arranging all of the transportation logistics.

Shabbat Shalom,

Lisa

Last week an anonymous parent donor offered a match opportunity to help us reach our goal of 100% participation and collect the last remaining contributions from our parent community. Kudos to all of you for helping us to raise this additional $3,000, resulting in a total of 93% participation. We attained a 100% participation in kindergarten, first grade, second grade, third grade, fourth grade and sixth grade; 86% in fifth grade; 86% in seventh grade; and 50% in eighth grade.

Come join our garden work party on Sunday morning from 8:30 to 11:00. Bring work gloves and weeding tools.

Thank you! ~ Ellen
