Golden Hill Phase II

Second Facility Opened to Guests

Long anticipated and much celebrated, Golden Hill flung open the doors of another storage facility in December, revealing a "gold mine" of artifacts--treasured aircraft and components that, until now, were off-limits to Fantasy of Flight guests. Phase I, the recently built storage building, opened last summer and proved so popular with guests that the older building was spruced up and made guest-friendly in response to demand. Confused? Don't be! But do come by to see all the "new" nuggets of aviation history that await restoration--many with all-original components and every one a legend.

Among the residents of Phase II:

  • Awesome Amphibians: PBY Catalina and Grumman Duck
  • Carrier-based Conquerors: Fairey Swordfish and Grumman Hellcat
  • Early jets: Gloster Meteor and DeHavilland Vampire
  • Heroes of the Soviet: TU-2, Lavochkin La-11, and Antonov An-2
  • War Changers: Mitsubishi Zero and Lockheed P-38 Lightning
  • Plus so much more... including the legendary CalTech Wind Tunnel
Golden Hill 2 Zero Swordfish
Golden Hill Phase II treasures include Swordfish, Zero, and much more.

A message from Kermit Weeks about these videos: "You Are There! Come along as I fly my North American AT-6D. I'll give you a little introduction to the plane, as we do a pre-flight inspection and cockpit tour. Then we'll take her up for a spin. Might even do a snap roll. It's going to be a lot of fun, so come aboard."

the Tuskegee Airmen Spirit

in 3rd Annual Essay Contest

For the third year, Central Florida students are invited to share their thoughts and dreams in an essay contest honoring the inspirational Tuskegee Airmen--the nation's first African-American military aviators--and to compete for prize money. Students in grades 6-12 are eligible to enter the contest, themed "They Dared to Fly" in reference to the values that landed the Tuskegee Airmen in the history books: leadership, excellence, advocacy, and determination. First place winners in each of two categories (grades 6-8 and 9-12) will take home $500; two second place winners each will receive $300.

The contest is sponsored by Fantasy of Flight in conjunction with scheduled appearances by several original Tuskegee Airmen Feb. 7-9, 2013. The event will be held in celebration of Black History Month and marks the first of six symposiums in the attraction's 2013 Legends & Legacies Symposium Series.
