            Loan Cycle Continues

This month we are featuring two of the mothers from our loan group, Horl Sary and Proeung Pech. Their businesses are doing very nicely.

                                      Horl Sary

Immediately below we can see Horl Sary working at her sugar cane crushing machine, which produces the sugar cane juice she sells at her business.

Horl Sary:
"I am happy to see Mr. Leang visited me at my booth. As my business, I am selling sugar cane - juice each day so that I could earn some money to take care my family. Each day, I could sell the sugar cane 20$ because the hot season and I could get profit about 7$ a day. I am so thankful for MfM is providing the loan to me!"

The photo below shows Proeung Pech with her newly acquired corn supply. As we see from Suy Leang's comment, it appears to be a product that will give a good profit.

Suy Leang:

"Today, I visited Ms. Pech's business and I saw her buying corns seeds and she will prepare to sell within this week to her customers. As I have interviewed with her, she said that she could sell and she could earn the money. She bought corns seeds so she could earn about 175$ and she gets profit about 40$ per selling. She told us that she is very happy to get the loan from MfM."

    Initial Loan Distribution Meeting

As mentioned in January, the five mothers who had previously completed their first loan cycle met to receive their second loan. They had all paid back their first loan of $100 - with interest. We're proud of them, and want to show them here again in this May newsletter. Below we see our director, Suy Leang, and assistant, Srey Roth, as they celebrated with the women in January when they received their second loan ($150):

Loan Distribution Meeting
Niels In Cambodia
Hi Everybody!

Digging through my archive I couldn't resist  grabbing the above photo - taken during one of my visits to Cambodia. The two girls are from one of the families we were supporting.

     -----------------

I'm so pleased to see the level of success that some of the women in our lending program are having. In reading their comments it becomes very clear that we are making a significant difference. The poor in Cambodia get by on less than $2 per day - in other words, about $50. So when you look at a loan of $150 you are really looking at an amount equal to three months' income, which is a large amount of money. It's an amount that they could never hope to save up on their own, and gives them the capital they need to start a real business.

If you would like to add your name to the list of donors you too can make a real difference. Please give it some serious thought.

And don't forget, we're still raising funds to build more latrines for families in need. The cost for one latrine is $200. If you would like to assist simply click the link below to reach our donate page. It will make a world of difference for a poor family.

Take care for now.
