| ADD SOME JAZZERCISE TO YOUR ROUTINE | |
|
Two Jazzercise dance-fitness classes will open at the Northumberland Family YMCA. Jazzercise instructor Marcia Peters has added the classes to accommodate YMCA participants and to provide current Jazzercise participants with a greater choice of convenient class times.
The Northumberland Family YMCA is offering a county-wide free-for-all Jazzercise Open House 9:00am on February, 16, 2013. All are invited to see what Jazzercise is all about and try it out. Open house festivities will include information on the Jazzercise program and a free workout. Admission is free to everyone, and participants should dress to exercise. The new classes will begin the week of February 20 at 5:30pm on Wednesdays and 9:00am on Saturdays at the Y. "I have been teaching Jazzercise for 8 years in the Northern Neck and I'm excited about bringing Jazzercise to the YMCA while continuing to teach my morning classes at the Callao Rescue Squad." said Peters. "Jazzercise offers a unique blend of fitness and jazz dance that the Northern Neck residents have discovered is a lot of fun."
The 60-minute Jazzercise class includes a warm-up, high-energy aerobic routines, muscle-toning and cool-down stretch segment. Jazzercise combines elements of dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, kick-boxing and more to create programs for people of every age and fitness level.

| SCHOOL TO POOL PLANNING BEGINS | |
Volunteers and YMCA staff recently gathered to begin planning this year's School to Pool 2nd grade swim lesson program. The program is expanding this year as Richmond County's 2nd graders prepare for swim lessons as well.
YMCA staff from Northumberland and Richmond County have been working together along with officials from both school systems to plan for this year's program. "We are thrilled to be able to host both schools here at the Northumberland Y's outdoor pool," says Branch Director Cristian Shirilla.
The program is expected to provide nearly 200 children with swim lessons before summer officially kicks off. If you are interested in volunteering for this community wide effort please contact Cristian Shirilla at 580-8901.

| PICKLEBALL FOR ALL | |
|
The game is different than anything you've played before. It's not quite ping pong, it's not quite tennis, it's not quite volleyball, and it's not quite badmitton...but if you were to mix all of those sports together in a blender you'd pour out an incredibly fun game called pickleball.
Each Tuesday and Thursday morning around 9am you'll hear the unique sound of pickleball coming from your Y's gymnasium court. Many of our members have peaked in to check it out but haven't quite ventured on to the court yet. If you're one of them, what are you waiting for? There are about 20 regular players, and interest is growing.
Experience is not required and you can put competitiveness aside. In fact those who have more fun tend to play better over time. Everyone is invited to play. We usually have players ranging in age from 14-85, and believe me, youth and enthusiasm do not often win a game.
Want to get started? Come on out and play.
