Greetings!

Swimming Pool I hope you plan to use your pool or spa frequently this summer, creating great moments and lasting memories.  It's also vacation time though, so

ARE YOU LEAVING YOUR POOL BEHIND THIS SUMMER?

Don't let your pool feel neglected when you leave on vacation! While you're away, debris and bacteria can collect in your pool and upset the water balance. We want you to come home to  clear, inviting water--not a green monster, so we've provided a checklist below.  One option, especially if you will be gone for 2 weeks or more,  is to call us for VACATION SERVICE.  We will come once a week to maintain your pool/spa while you are away.  Click Here  to contact us and set it up before you leave.  If you won't be gone too long,  following the tips below will help keep your pool crystal-clear and sparkling until your return:
  1. Clean your pool thoroughly, brushing and vacuuming walls and floors.
  2. Test your pool water to make sure it's properly balanced.
  3. Make sure you have enough chemicals in the water to last until you get back.
  4. Set your timer to run your pump at least 8 hours per day. When water is in motion, it is harder for bacteria and algae to find a surface on which to grow and the chemicals are more thoroughly distributed.
  5. When you return, bring in a water sample and have our professionals at Redlands Pool & Spa Center  perform a water analysis to ensure that your pool is properly balanced and ready for swimming.

Cal's Q & A:
  Cal
  1. What kinds of problems does extremely hot weather cause?  Answer: Hot weather can be a problem for motors, so it's best to run your pool filter during the night or in the morning before it gets too hot.  Motors running in high temperatures  may overheat and burn out.  Hot weather also means nice warm water - perfect for swimming but also perfect for algae, so make sure you have balanced water and that you use a preventative algaecide.
  2. Isn't  all liquid chlorine the same? Answer: No.  Liquid chlorine is sold at varying strengths and also loses potency over time - it has a comparatively short shelf-life.  If it isn't fresh and/or it isn't as strong as it should be,  it will not be as effective in your pool and you will have to add more of it more frequently.  Ours is delivered to us fresh every week and is guaranteed to be 12.5%.
  3. Should I convert my pool to salt?  Answer:  Salt may be for you, depending on how often you use your pool and whether swimmer comfort is important to you.  Contrary to what many people think, salt pool systems still use chlorine as the sanitizer.  They convert salt (NaCl) to chlorine, continuously producing low levels and constant sanitization.  Installing a salt system will avoid fluctuating chlorine levels, and at the same time produce a soft feel to the water.  People who swim frequently usually love the feel and say that they don't have to shower when they get out of the pool.  That being said, if you are thinking that you will save a lot of money by converting to salt, that will probably not be the case.  Although you will not have to purchase very much chlorine, you WILL need to diligently monitor the pH of your pool and you will require more muriatic acidThe pH of the chlorine produced is 14 (the ideal range for swimming is 7.2-7.4). Acid is usually needed several times a week to counteract the high pH of the chlorine generated from salt. There is technology now available that continually monitors chlorine and pH in salt pools and adjusts both automatically.  Ask our staff if you are interested in more information.
See you at the store,
Cal
